I was told by a couple gas stations in the area that they are no longer carrying it. Initially I wasn't sure what to believe so I called Sunoco customer service (1-800-SUNOCO-1) and they confirmed it was being phased out. There are some gas stations around here that carry it but not for long (until the tank runs out).
RIP 94 Octane
I never used it anyway. Was waiting for the price to drop lower than 2.50 a gallon. Oh well. I can deal with just 93 and c16.

I didn't even know they still had it. I remember reading something on LS1Tech at least a year ago about Sunoco dropping the Ultra94 line. I think some of it had to do with emissions, mostly from morons putting 94 in their shitbox cars thinking it will make it run better, when in fact a low compression motor will make less power, get worse gas mileage, and produce more hydrocarbon emissions with high octane gas.

LMAO, if only it was that easy. You know how those little bottles say "Raise your octane by two points"? That means two points..... point 1, point 2.... so for $5 you get 0.2 more octane. Snake oil at it's finest!!!!!
By there's always Xylene and Marvel Mystery Oil, the original poor mans race gas mix from Home Depot!

We can run that no problem? Other than a retune, I suppose.

island usually always has race gas. idk what you mean by smuggling. btw nick, its 100 in ledgewood....i wonder where he gets that, if 94 is being phased out, i wonder if 100 will be too, if the guy even gets it from them.
and would that high of a concentration of ethanol really work? i thought it was used for diesel engines so it can ignite easy since they dont have sparkplugs like standard vehicles. i could be completely wrong tho...

A friend of mine ran the Xylene/93 octane combo for years in his Syclone. Ran that heavy ass AWD truck into the 11's many a times on stock bottom ends (yeah, he broke a few motors but you will after racing something for 13 years, plus DD usage).
I don't remember exactly what mixture he ran, but I think it was 4:1 gas/Xylene, and some Marvel Mystery Oil to keep the O-rings well lubed and protected from the Xylene. Lots of GN guys run it too, in fact that's where he got the idea from. Here's an octane chart:

Of course I can't back up this science. I know he and others had great luck with it but use at your own risk ;)
Edit: Something a little closer to home too... http://www.dsm.org/archives/1996/04/19960425.txt/8.html

That sucks. I guess its gonna be meth injection time soon.

FUCK sunoco, those dickheads!!! Not because they dropped 94, that's irrelevant anyway, but now its "ultra" 93...their premium is now only 91 octane...Fucking bastards. Even the gulf/getty's are 93 while the sunoco is 91. Anyway, at least the one down the road from me is.

the sunoco by me has 100 octane, I just put 2-3 gallons of that in and the rest super.

You might be surprised at how mixing octanes does not always equal the sum of it's parts. IE, 10 gallongs of 100 and 10 gallons of 90 might not always equal 95 octane, it's generally less.

Is there really any difference with 93 and 94? I've been using 94 for who knows how long now, but not entirely sure if 1 octane makes a LOT lot of difference? Performance, and other benefit wise?
thanks in advance

i thought dre did a pocketlogger thing about a million years ago and found that there wasn't really a knock difference between 93 and 94
maybe it wasn't dre, and maybe i was dreaming.

well ya, I did not say it was a formula. I just used a little trial and error. Especially since sunoco GT is 105 RON, but only 95 MON. But for my car 2-3 gallons of GT and 10 gallons of 93 is enough to cure any knock issues I have while running 38 degrees of total timing and 14 deg. of base timing.

If you tune the car for 94 and run a lot of boost on it then switch to 93 you will notice a difference. I've spent the last few months tuning my car on the ride to and from work, I'm running 25-26psi on 94 Ultra and if I throw some 93 in the knock gauge will light up like a Christmas tree. I could turn the boost down some but where's the fun in that. Driving a 400hp car to work every day that looks like something your grandma would own is FUN!! I just filled up today and I hope it won't be the last time I can fill it with 94. I guess some Xylene or Tolulene would be a reasonable alternative but then I'm not really running pump gas anymore.
