We have an events thread, where one would think you can post events. Wrong. Only Mods are allowed to post in there. Yet then we must resort to posting events in the General Discussion where a moderator must then move to the Events thread. The only other option is sending a PM to one of the mods and have it "approved" (what for, who knows). As of now, all I've heard is how little time our admin has for updating the rest of the site yet he'd rather be troubled with deleting posts and moving threads? Can someone explain where the common sense is in that? Also, when was the last "official" nj.dsm event even held for which the Events forum is meant for?

I say open that forum up for everyone, rename it "Events, Meets, & Get Togethers" and save yourself some future work.

In any case, the mods and guys that keep up this forum actually do work and take time so we can sit here and bicker back and forth without it getting out of control. I mean it's not as strict as DSMTuner or anything. I say let the mods do whatever they want as long as its within reason.

Managing threads I can do, I can access the site from work, and it's a whole 2 clicks to move a thread to the events section. Sitting down and coding a database in php, which I am not really all the proficent with I can't do in a 3 min sweep of the board, nor could I upload files to my server to test them during the day, plus I have consulting work I do in some of the free time that I have. Updating the memebers section will not help pay my mortgage, nor have I ever tried to make this a money making club. So far luke offered to help, but I have seen nothing from him, and no one else offered.

The meets are up to the members to setup, as everyone knows I don't live in NJ so it's kind of hard to setup events. If all the members feel there is someone out there that would be a good "event coordinator" I will gladly give them priveldges to start threads there. 95% of threads on this board go off topic, so forgive me for trying to keep a few sections organized.

Brent, Mike has a point.. it might just be easier to PM either Mike or myself just to prevent topics from going "astray" as they always seem to do. Besides, there aren't that many meets to begin with.. the local Bridgewater Applebees meet on Sundays, those who go know it's every Sunday, and then random events like Nate's idea about going to the Auto-X this weekend at E-town.

Just figuring it would work out better for everyone if that forum was opened up to more than just mods being able to create a new thread. One of the problems with the Events section (and maybe this is just in my own head) is that it isn't viewed as often by everyone. That's why I started my thread about an end of year meet at Island in the General section, to get word out and gauge the response. Then once I had some feedback as far as interest and date I asked the mods to move it. If Mike and Greg want to keep it that way then that's fine with me.

I dunno, I see it the opposite way where if you see the new post icon, you'd be more tempted to look if the forum had less traffic. I could be wrong though. I mean at most there is one event a week, and if its happening every week the thread should be there.

I guess I'm a little different then. When I come to the site, I click the "view posts since last visit" link at the top so no matter what forum they're in, a list of posts come up. It would just be nice to have the convenience in posting in the Events forum whenever you'd want.

As John mentioned, it's most likely not viewed as much by people as the other areas are mainly because people know that only a select few and/or times will there be a thread started in there.

Either way is fine with me, I personally thing ALL the meeting/track day/autox/mallmeetings/applebees type threads should be in the events area.

Just be sure to make it consistent and the people that want to see those threads will start to check out events forum more frequently. Make sure every thread like this ends up there, not only some.
