Shelby did this before back in '66 with the GT350H. They were black and gold.

they got smart and didn't put a more powerful motor in it
those old gt350h's got stripped for their parts back in the day. rent it, take the motor out, send it back with a stocker.
they did that with those rental saleen's too.

or just rent them and bolt on some slicks and go racing.

They'll still spank the shit out of any import ,even with automatic. There is a saying that comes in racing, " there is NO substitute for cubic inches"
I remember back in 1988, when I had my bone stock GT, spanking the crap out of a toyota supra turbo, on bloomfield avenue, back when everyone used to cruise the avenue, before the No cruising laws, came to effect.

haha come on dude, no way a GT will spank the crap out of a TTpewpra... maybe the n/a one, but gt's just arent fast. And second of all, the phrase is "there is no replacement for displacement"

No sir, back in my day it was what i originally said. No offense, but maybe you havent been around, long enough to remember the old days. While I have gained some respect for imports,I still flow detroit muscle through my veins. Waiting out for that hemi-charger, my prediction is, that will revive the old muscle car wars, from the 60's and from the late eighties.Between that hemi-charger and the soon to arrive shelby mustangs, ooomph, style, class, and muscle is back! The sound of an ass-kicking muscle carl, just cant compare.

I have driven/rode in multiple turbo supras (stock and modified), I also own a 5.0 camaro, along with working at a dodge dealership for a year and driving the hemi chargers all day. I know the value of "muscle cars" i've worked on them all my life, but I find it nearly impossible to believe that the mid 80's mustang walks all over a turbo supra. It's one thing to hang in there with a car like that, its another to leave it in the dust.

I am not biased one way or the other to Domestic/Import cars, I am normally one to stick up for the American cars when you get those idiots that will never even bother to show interest in an American car b/c they are 'told' they are pieces of shit. I love the sound of my camaro and there is only one sound that I would prefer to a throaty grumbling 8cyl... and that is the spool of a monster turbo. Some people have found a way to enjoy both through the same tailpipe, and I'm dying to join that club. To me its not a battle of import vs domestic, it is the simple fact that the mustang just isnt fast enough to shit on a 320hp car.

Just for shits and giggles I looked up 0-60 and 1/4 mile times:

88 gt 6.4 15.0

89 supra turbo 6.6 15.2

They were both really cool sports cars at the time (some would even say still). I would just leave it at that.

And i doubt a 330hp autmoatic with stock tires will outrun any import. Boosts talon FWD is probly faster than that mustang. Also maybe he did dust him if there was a crap driver in the supra.

Considering that this was back in 1989, the toyota supra output was 232 HP, the GT was 225, the race was a short street race from the light at 3rd street to the next light at lake street, on bloomfield Avenue, while it's true the supra gave a close race, the fact remains as this, "it dont matter if you win by inches or by car lengths, a win is a win". While my driving might have gotten a little rusty over the years, give me a good trans with a nice clutch and smooth shifter, and the rest remains to be seen. I won't bash neither car, but I do get a little irritated when I seen young kids bashing Detroit Iron, without knowing the facts. It's like everything else nowadays a fad that comes and goes.

I agree with you on the detroit bashing, but in your original post you said that you remember
spanking the crap out of a toyota supra turbo I was 4 when this race happened so I'm not gonna go too far into it, but I wouldnt hold that race as a standard that mustangs are faster than supras. Any number of things could have affected the outcome of that race. At the track last time my car ran like absolute crap, and on one run I almost stalled off the line, consequently I lost the race to a ram 1500 with an air filter. That doesnt mean that a 1500 is faster than my car, or all dsm's for that matter.

Ok, so than I will rephrase it like this, given both cars, with the same skilled drivers behind wheel, the mustang will outrun the supra of those respective years, because torque is what moves the vehicle from a dead stop, and being this the case, the mustang, with 300 ft lbs of torque and the toyota with 254, the mustang will accelerate faster than the toyota, assuming both vehicle weights are within close range of eachother.
