well, after buying my lex, driving it for a week before becoming completely immobile, i've come to the conclusion that im going to take a loss with yet another car. unfortunately. After getting walked on so many times, i've decided i have to get away from cars. I have only the weekend to work on my car and don't have a garage. I can't take the stress anymore, I sought the lex to resolve this, but problem after problem that no one was willing to help me with, and a number of unanswered phonecalls, I decided to give up. I can't justify wasting another grand and a half to fix a problem that shouldn't have happened, plus get the problems i knew it had, fixed. It also has no a/c ("worked perfectly" ), and its getting hot out. I've been fucked for thousands, and I can't take it anymore. I involuntarily created a war with my parents, and I can't do anything about it now. I'm looking for something powerful, rwd, and relatively new. I've been searching, but I really don't know all of what is out there. Some one please point me in a good direction.

get a stock daily driver and get rid of the stress. I am almost exactly on your line. I've dumped thousands and thousands into my cars over the years and take such big hits when I sell them. After my Laser, I'm out of the car game for awhile.

i dont want a stock daily driver, i wanted to have fun. I've already wasted thousands on my dsm, i didn't want to, but dreams of reliability kept me going. I made the decision to by a reliable car slow rwd car, which was fun, but not fast enough for what I really want to do in the summer. But now, dropping the amount of money I did on a car without a working clutch, bald tires, no a/c, a minorly cracked rim, smoke on startup, various electrical issues, on top of what i already knew about the car that was wrong, which i fixed, i can't take it anymore. I want to drive, not stress out in school 5 days a week, make the little amount of money i can on the weekends, to pay for a huge bill when i trusted the integrity of someone. I don't even know how much i can get for the car with the problems it has, so im guessing my price range is anywhere from 15-25k. It's sad that this has to happen....but I'm left without any other logical choice. It's either this, or let my car sit for months, have parents that are more upset than I am, then finally get it done if I find time, only for something bad to go wrong afterwards. I really hate seeing my parents suffer because I have no car. (always borrowing one of theirs..)

well if you dont want any troubles of repair, and want a fast car, I would suggest something new. However, most fast cars are going to come with the fast look to it, and further increase your police problems. Look into the new dodge chargers, mark can hook you up. You can get them fairly cheap, you'll have the factory warranty along with rwd and 320hp in a pretty good looking car that wont be a complete cop magnet. The only thing that sucks is that it is only offered in automatic. Either buy a new car, or get one from an old guy that has maintained the car perfectly and wont screw you over :(

ls1 gto. looks totally normal, can be had for about 18k now still with warantee. pleanty fast and excellent build quality.

I did look into them, but idk, i hear theyre pretty quick, but they lack handling, and i didnt know they only came auto. I really had no problem keeping with regular maintence, and the occasional bullshit big things thrown my way (sorta get used to it, owning a dsm), but for some odd reason, after spending 23k on a car, I refuse to have to spend 200$ on a slave/master, if not that, then 600$ on a rebuilt clutch, +downtime +labor, +the tires i just bought, +getting the a/c fixed, +getting it tuned correctly, +getting all electronics to work, +the fact i JUST bought it. Legally, i dont think i can do anything. I was hoping for a bit of morality, however thats looking hopeless. I never even got the chance to track it. I was angry at first, but now just severely depressed with all the problems it caused. I'm looking at either an s2000, 350z, fd, or an m3. I want to build an exteremly well handling car, which I can go to shitloads of events with, while either maintaining reliability, or being cheap enough to afford the problems (ex. fd and their engines).

you can't get the gto in stick? are you sure? no way i mean i don't know much about them but i find that hard to belive. i mean i totally would have heard about that for something to laugh at.
i'm sure they handle fine. its no corvette but i'm sure you'll have fun with it.
if you want a reliable fast car you are going to have to consider an american car (traditional big motor power). revving the piss out of a car or a turbocharger really kills the reliability.

Yea what ^he^ said, i'm the sure the previous owner is a honest, well respected guy, and would be willing to help you out in any way possible, especially since you just bought the car recently. Plus if he is on the boards i'm sure that person would lend a helping hand to a fellow dsmer.

-A month too late, my friend was considering selling his FD a month ago... but now he's back in love with it, i'll let you know if anything comes up and he wants to sell it again. It's a truely nice car, start it up, let it warm and you've got yourself a reliable rotary (yeah, hard to believe) but this car has been treated perfectly, due to the fact that the owner isn't a speed-crazy douche and has half a dozen other cars to drive. :P .
-Sorry about your situation man, let's just see what the previous owner has to say about everything...

I would stay away from S2000. They are great cars and really reliable. But they have a really weak drivetrain specially the rear.

first off buddy, my parents really arent paying for anything. They also didnt pay a DIME for the bimmer. my parents arent pissed cause i wasted their money, they're pissed cause i THOUGHT i knew what i was buying, they just dont want to see me carless, +use their cars. But unfortunately, time and money aren't all available to me right now to just "fix" the problems i shouldn't fucking have. i'm not going to just "eat it" because i did that with my GSX which costs thousands. This car came from what i thought was a well respected person, ive heard good things about him and everything, and the car as well. (well, we really can't hear bad things on this forum...) I really wish the person i bought it from would have returned my 20+ phone calls, (gvr4737, awd 4tw, tons of witnesses know i called him.) perhaps if i was offered a proposition with the smallest bit of morality, i wouldnt have these problems.

and Joe, think about this next car long and hard before you jump into it. You say you want a fast car and are naming some decent cars, but again all cars that scream "pull me over". Talk about a cop's dream to see a teenage kid crusing down the highway in his red 2 seater loud sports car. Dont get the s2k, like stated the drivetrain sucks, as well as being a very annoying dd (extremely loud/raw stock exhaust, blind spots everywhere, 0 interior space, no chance at reclining the seat if your uncomfortable, killer insurance, and not the best on gas either). I honestly think the gto would be a nice option. Not too flashy, yet stylish and pretty quick. I like the chargers, and they are fairly nimble also, but the fact they are only automatic really hurts their cause.

This is fucking classic. Im printing this post and framing it in my office for posterity. It's going right next to Brent's Certificate of Award.
Im also wondering why you don't pick up an Evo8 and do nothing more than Exhaust, Boost, Clutch, ECU tune. It would be very reliable if you don't modify the hell out of it and handle better than all the cars on your list. Get a silver or white one, remove the wing and ricer tails and you have a awsome everyday car that ins't super flashy. I bitch alot about my evo, but honestly, It was a great car untill I kept pushing/tearing it apart. Had I left it at "BPU" it would be mint still.
Either way you look at it, if you want to keep it reliable, that means minimal modifications. your going to have to settle for at best a low 13 second car.

This is a good reason why you don't buy a $5000 car with a $5000 engine for $23,000 and then expect a decade old lexus to be reliable? Let alone one that has EVERYTHING modified and fucked with.
Noone HAS to do anything for free. he bought a USED CAR. Legal obligation ends with handing over the key. Owner of this car is fucked, that's the end of it.

WOW, I get home at 3am from the shop after wrenching on a ZO-6 all night and this is the first time I know of anything else that we talked about Joe.
I'm dead tired but will make a quick post about this.
#1, I dont hide from anyone, I always pick up my phone if anyone calls. I NEVER saw a single missed call from you Joe. You have my cell number and I never saw a missed call. I always call everyone back right away when I miss a call. The last time we talked was on Saturday at 5-6ish, when I tried to get you a slave for the car from my local auto parts store. I called YOU back and didn't get an answer. It's now Friday morning and I have over 100 hours of work at the shop this week alone, but I always have my cell on me. Regardless, I would have called you back if I saw a missed call. This post you are making is extremely wrong.
Since you decided to make this public without talking to me, I will mention a few things publicly so noone else gets the oposite idea of what I'm about.
Every problem except the clutch problem was brought to your attention. Your friend Mark, I beleive his name was, was at my house when you came to see it for the first time. I told you absolutely everything that was wrong with the car. I even offered to make you a list because of how many little things it needed, so that you can be on top of everything and not forget. You said you didn't need it.
When I took you for a ride, did the clutch not function perfectly? When I drove the car to your house, did the clutch not function perfectly? If it didn't, I would have told you about it. I in fact told you the AC DID work, and work it did for me. I never had a problem with it for the 2 summers I owned it as well as the defoger for this last winter. If something happened to the compressor like you said, it was after I sold it to you. We talked about that on the phone as well, and I offered to try and help you find a used one. I was even going to pick up the bill. I dont care about $100 part, I want to see you happy with my old car.
If something is happening with the clutch system, it's after you bought the car. I made a few 3-4 gear pulls on rt23 on the way to your house. There's no way the car would pull that hard if there was a slipping clutch like you mention. There is no putting a band aid on a clutch problem. It's there or it's not there. Also when we talked about it the few times on the phone, you didn't even have the car completely diagnosed yet. You said it has low pedal pressure which made me beleive the slave or master was no good. The clutch in my Lexus is an RPS Carbon/Carbon for anyone who didn't know this already. It's the king of the hill carbon fiber $2800 clutch. One of many top notch parts on the car. I dont play around. This car never left me stranded anywhere. I even told you I'd call RPS to talk to them about the matter, but you never called me back. Sometimes I check caller id's at the shop when I'm out for a little while, but not always. If you called me that many times and I missed that many calls at my shop, I must be deaf or something wrong with my phones. And you have my cell number anyway.
I am completely shocked as to what I've read in this thread from many people. Joe, make sure you call my cell phone anytime tomorrow to resolve this matter at hand. Not only about the car, but about this BS thread. This thread could not be farther from the truth and it pains me much to read this BS. I am willing to look the other way and help you reslove the issues with the car. I genuinely feel bad that the the AC and clutch are having problems right after I sold it, but there was 0 clue for me to know what was going happen. I mentioned every known problem with the car to you on more than one acasion. I really am amazed and cant wait to talk in the moring. Call me when you wake up as I will be up in aother few hours anyway.
Juan, 9520G, I am amazed at what I've read from you here as well. Please call me after 12 noon at the shop TOMORROW. I'll call your your cell/work if I dont hear from you by 2-3pm.
It's now a complete hour after I started typing.

and just for the record.. I know when things don't go right, people tend to vent and the internet is the easiest way to do it. Settle the gripes you have w/ the person involved, DIRECTLY. Don't bring that shit on this forum. I think Mike and I have been very lax about many threads and posts on this board, but alot of you who posted in this thread need to grow the fuck up.
