well im looking to get a better helmet for this season. right now i have two hjc's which do the job, but they are pretty heavy for long rides, i was looking at the suomy which seems to be the best bang for the buck at 275 weighing in at ~2.75 lbs. what do you guys wear? looking to spend less than 300. also note that now that i live in texas, i need a helmet with extremely good ventilation.

I don't know much about street bike helmets, but I do have a few motocross ones that I found on ebay for a great price. I found My $450 troy lee helmet for $275 still in the box.

I have a HJC that I use for street and winter riding but IMHO the overall quality is crap. The vent on the back fell off and the graphics on the side fell apart and started flaking after a few uses in the cold weather. I got it from some website like "discounthelmets.com" or something. They were a lot cheaper than Dennis Kirk or Chapparral but the helmet was still over $200 and I was disappointed in the fact that it fell apart so quickly.

I have an Arai, but it won't fit into your budget...
I went from an HJC to an Arai and LOVE it. Very comfortable, very light.

I've heard awesome things about Suomy's as well. I know a bunch of people who have them and they love. I'd suggest just going to a good shop and trying a bunch of them on.

I'm not sure where you're located, but Xtreme Machines down on Rt.33 (Millstone I think) has a HUGE selection, so you can try on tons of helmets to see which fits you best. Remember, the higher-end helmets have different shapes, as opposed to the cheaper ones which don't. The different shapes are meant to fit different shaped heads.

my hjc was on my now dead friend's head when he crashed bounced down the street and knocked over a post box, and then on my head when i bounced off a camry and then rolled down the street and hit a civic. it performed very well.
i offered it to greg when he was at island but he didn't get the joke.

no he died later on for being even stupider. he came very close to dying though. he hit the mail box that was 3 feet over from a fire hydrant. if he hit the hydrant he'd be dead.

i have a shoei, not sure about the weight, but it has good ventilation. The one I bought is slightly out of that range, but I bought the gsxr edition one which is a little more. I think i only spent like 350 though. I my opinion a good helmet.

I crashed with an HJC and it held up great.

Yeah, I actually wrecked while ice racing with my HJC on and it did hold up well even though I wrecked hard enough to break my shoulder. The build quality of the shell is not an issue, the fact that the ventilation ducts pretty much fell off after only a year of usage is what my gripe is with them. I have a Bieffe that I use while dirt riding and that thing is like 15 years old with no problems at all.

When I need a new helmet I go to Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse and look at what they have on clearance. In fact I get all my bike stuff from there, great prices.
