Hey everyone. I'm in the middle of a fewhtings with my car right now. Mostly, i'm just tring to get it to feel newer. I"ve got a few questions...

1)Where should I buy an alternator? I replaced a friends alternator this weekend and they gave her a 90AMP one, but i keep hearing the OEM is 75AMP. Where is a good palce to buy a stock-fitting alt? the one we got her was local and it was $160.

2)Where should I buy an axle? I need a new passenger axle for my 2g FWD Turbo. R&S said they could get me one for $130. Is that easy to change by myself? I figure I can just drop the lower A arm and pop that sucker out probably? I really have no idea...i was just going to go at it.

3)I made a boost leak tester but it doesnt seem to work well with a bicycle pump. i used a small rubber pipe with a PVC cap in the end with a press in valve. I dont see how i'm supposed to be able to maintain a positive pressure to listen for the leak because it seems to come out immediately. Although, I may have a leak right where the press in valve is.

4)How hard is it to put in new bushings? I've read that new suspension bushings make a very big differnece in the way a car feels, so I think I'll replace those soon. Do I need any special tools or anything?

5) Where is a good place to get a new valve cover gasket kit?

6) I'm going to change my tranny fluid this weekend. I look around and I see pepole mixing some stuff. Is 2.3quarts of straight Redline MT90 going to be ok?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.
Andy

Straight MT90 is too thick. Most guys who use Redline do what Redline recommends: 50/50 mixture of MTL and MT90.

I've used that for years and never had a problem. Now that I'm doing some roadracing I switched to BG Syncroshift 2 because its synthetic and I assume wont break down as quick as the nonsynth with the heat. Most people recommend:

BG Syncroshift
BG Syncroshift 2 (costs twice as much as 1)
GM Syncromesh
Redline MTL and ML90 in 50/50

for the passenger side axle, i find it easiest to just unbolt the strut and swing it out. you can either pull it out of the hub first, but you can also pop it out of the trans first, there is room to do that. so depending on your liking, either way works. watch the brake hoses though, you should unbolt the holder piece from the strut so you have more clearance. and if you have ABS, same thing for that wire.
you'll need a big socket though, i forget the size right now. for the axle bolt

don't forget that trans fluid will pour out, so drain at least a quart out first.
the axle needs to be "popped" out of the trans. its difficult to do with the triangle frame piece in there. you can do it, but its a bitch. if you just unbolt those 5 bolts and take that triangle piece out, you can easily pop the axle out with a prybar or huge screwdriver.
long extension and hammer work too. give it a few whacks and it will unseat itself from the snap ring.

i have a boost leak tester i made that works real well. i tested it up to 40 psi, and it does not leak from anywhere on the tester. has a gauge and a shrader valve. let me know if you wanna borrow it, im right here in NB.
