Is it possible for shift cables to just seize up and become really hard to move?

They worked fine before the car broke but now after the tranny swap I cant even get it over into first and when it's in Nuetral it doesnt go back to center it stays where ever you put it and they feel very stiff.

Just old age taking it's toll on a car that sat for 5 months??? Nothing is blocking the linkage either I already checked that.

If its super stiff with the car running but shifts a lot easier with the car off, your clutch probably is not disengaging all the way.

They are stiff even when the car runs and I'm trying to shift. Its like there being held back but theres ntohign blockign them...I dunno its really weird.

Disconnect them from the trans and see if the same problem exists.

When there not connected to the trans they move fine...I can go in a full 360 without any stiffness...what do you think the problem is??

I don't know what it is but I do know it isn't in the cables if they move fine when disconnected from the trans. My guess would be the clutch not disengaging all the way. You're confusing the shit out of me now though. You're other thread says the car won't start but then you gave the statement I quoted above.

Because I had another trans in and the car ran...and the cables were stiff when shifting...this is my third attempt at fixing the trans.

Sorry.

But wouldnt the cables move freely even if they were bad...There not connected to anything??? The lever on the trans goes into eevry gear when the cables arent connected.

And assuming its the clutch not disengaging all the way what causes that TOB Pressure plate?

And would I basically need a whole new clutch.

I should also mention Left to right movement is stiff while up and down movement is not.

The vertical shifter arm on your trans is starting to seize. Pull off the 2 - 12mm's that hold it onto the trans and take it apart. You can clean it and put anti-seize on it to keep it from happening again. If its beyond repair you can just replace it with one from another trans. Just make sure it is the same length.

Turns out the Vertical lever was seized really bad...some PB blaster and a dremel to clean it up and it works better than ever.

Thanks for all the help guys...And Bean for finding the problem...I never knew the lever moved back and forth I thought it was an up down motion.
