ok guys here goes.. i just rebuilt my motor, new timing belt installed and everything lined up .. aftermarket pulleys (water pump and crank) put everything together and started car... motor runs fine just a little rich ... needs tune but i was in the process of adjusting my timing and CAS and the fuckin thing is a mile off... first off if my timing belt is off i would have bent valves already and seized the head... but motor runs fine... adjusted the cas as far as it can go but the mark on the pulley only goes as far as straight up pointing to the cam sprockets... does not go to the timing marks.. tuning with dsmlink... please advise... feel free to ask me questions also... thanks.

Ignition timing and cam/crank timing are two different things. If you are trying to set your ignition timing(CAS), let the car warm up, ground timing via dsmlink to lock it at 5deg, make sure no accesories are on like your fans, lights, radio, etc, and adjust the CAS while watching the crank pully with a timing light until it lines up with the 5 BTDC mark. Be carefull here because even tightening the CAS down might move it a little and throw it off a degree. Just take your time. Its pretty simple.

If your cam marks don't line up with the crank or balance shaft or oil pump, then you would have to take it all apart and do it again.

well i did not let the car warm up fully and we were using a timing light.. when installing the belt (timing) all sprockets were at their correct marks and even after installation i rotated the motor a few turns and everything was back at its position...and while checking timing was grounded by dsmlink..

They are not 2 different things when it comes to an incorrect Tbelt install, it WILL F up the igntion timing.

The Tbelt drives the cams in relation to the crank. The CAS is driven by the camshaft, so when the intake cam is off a tooth in relation to the crank, this is exactly what happens. The CAS is out of range for adjusting the ingition timing.

redo your Tbelt install, it's not right. If you are only off 1 tooth, you might not have bent any valves.
I did this at shootout in 2003, we installed new cams in the racecar inside trailer at 3AM and were off a tooth on the crank. I didn't figure it out untill trying to set the timing in the pits at 8AM when I thought my timing light was bad, borrowed one from Hill, it was off too...same issue your having.
I got the whole Tbelt job redone and running in time to qualify by about 2 minutes!! Utah was setting the timing while I got dressed to race!

When I did mine I had to replace it about five times until I got everything to align perfectly. Even if it's just a little off it's still off.

aftermarket pulleys (water pump and crank) :?: I almost want to say that could be your problem
but there could be alot of other things wrong.

Was this in car or out of car? Are you sure you tensioned the belt
properly? What did you use to make sure the cams lined up?
When you finished the tbelt, did you turn the crank
(clockwise) 4times(let it sit). Double check the tensioner and
the marks. Then turn the crank 2 more times to get it back to
true TDC and double check all the marks.

DSM Tbelt are easy but it's also easy to make a really bad mistake.
What Nate said is absoutely true....

BTW while redoing the the Tbelt make sure the
CAS isn't 180* out...

figured it out... the dowell pin on the cam sprocket was not there so when i put the pulley on it was lined up incorrectly... readjusted and all is fine now... thanks for your help guys.

Dowel pins are on the cams, not the sprocket, and if there's no dowel pin how do you figure the cam gear is going to stay put?
