View Full Version : Voltage/battery problem
Big problem here...my volt gauge is reading 18v..maybe more because it was pinned to the max wich is 18v..So i get out to check the battery and it's bubbleling acid out of the top caps...What do you guys think would cause this?..Bad connection some where?..Or does it just look like a bad battery?
Thank you.

Sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator to me.
its your alternator as dave said. Happened to me before.
So just replace the altenator...Would that mess up the cars idleling?

Yes that much voltage could have friend your idle control motor (isc) which could give you issues, see if changing the alternator resolves the issue.
Will do...thanx for the help!

the computer also has injector compensation for battery voltage (probably) but no way does it go to 18v so its probably flooding the motor too.
Dam glad i never sold my extra altenator..

i had the same exact problem, definately alternator, but damn it never hit 18 volts. 2 days later the damn thing stopped putting out altogether.
Finally got the dam thing replaced...The Car idles alot smoother now!Thanx..Am just having problems trying to get it started...It sounds like it's flooding..because it takes a few cranks for it to start..and i heard shots coming from the exhaust, the a/f gauge is buried on rich and i heard a click noise yesterday after i got the car started and shortly after that it shut off...I did get it to run for a little bit after that.I have the regulator at like 40psi..pretty sure it's the settings because i haven't gotten the afc tuned..and am not to confident on my Maf-t settings either..since i did it.
