View Full Version : Drilling out wastegate hole?
I might purchase a turbo locally, but the turbine housing wastegate passage has been welded shut. Do you think i'll be able to cut/drill/whatever the passage open without damage to the turbine housing? Attached is a pic of what i'm talking about.

Sure, but it won't be fun. I'm sure you'll need to use a die grinder after some point. This is for a wastegate mounted on the o2 then I take it?

I dont think it's gonna be that hard. You will first have to drill a hole (1/2 inch or so) and start porting it out with a die grinder and porting bit. Shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Cast iron is really easy to drill through, just be sure to use plenty of oil on it. Once you get a decent sized hole to start off (1/4") you can go to a UniBit and blast it up to 1" in no time. From there you can grind away until you're happy with it. You could also drop it off when you drop your head off at my buddy's house and he'll do whatever you'd like with it.

If you can take it to someone with a plasma cutter, that'll make life 100 times easier. All you'll need to do then is clean the edges up with the die grinder bit.

I COMPLETELY forgot about a plasma cutter. My dad has one at the shop he works at. Thanks, Brent.
