http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i14/lexx620/01f0_3.jpg going into my spyder with a new tranny in about two weeks but I do have a couple of questions. what are the pros and cons of a 6 bolt vs 7 bolt besides thye crankwalk issue. Ive heard that a stock 2 g puts out more power because of higher compresion pistons but that the 6 bolt can hold more boost because of the low compresion. are 2 g pistons better? is there a difference between 1g and 2g cams? It may sound like a noob question but Im sure every one that did a 6 bolt swap asked them selves this atleast once. thanx for your help

P.S. gtluke Please be gentle lol

difference in cams?? who cares they arent interchangeable.

1g head + intake is better... bigger ports. claims of 40whp on 16 g cars from a 1g head swap on 2g bottom end.

regardless, worry about this IF and when you blow the bottom end on the 6bolt. save your mental energy for getting the car running

Are you sure the head is better?

The cams are interchangeable, its just the 1g intake cam wont be drilled for the 97plus CAS. You'd either have either drill and tap or run a 1g CAS, which you will to make the swap work. Dont even bother swapping the cams though, just save and get a set of aftermarket cams.

yeah, the 1g head is going to have larger runners in the head.

The tiny runners on the evo's doesnt seem to be stopping them from running 8's without nitrous. Larger runners don't help you when the passage is horrible and where the 2g head shines. Each have their strong points.

Have you ever even looked through this website??? Or any other dsm website for that matter? Everything you've asked has been answered a MILLION times.

ahha true, use the search button to your advantage.

As for cams, Brian Crower (BC272) has the entire set for 300 shipped.

it's fuckin 2007 and people are still asking
these stupid questions.

One of these days the good people of NJDSM are just
going to stop answering these questions. Poor luke
just doesn't have anymore patience and
I don't blame him...

Yes, but if the same questions don't get asked for 10 years straight, what is there to talk about on this board? There's like 4 dsm's left in NJ that are real contenders and are breaking new ground. They're not talking about it here. So to keep this site relevant, let's answer the questions posed.

Although I must admit, those were some rookie questions  If you're getting the block built, you get whatever compression you like. And since you are running a basic 16g setup, a basic quality rebuild on either 6 or 7 bolt will serve you fine. BTW, I thought you sold the convertible?

If you really want to start debate, let's go back to BigT's post about 1g head runners vs 2g head runners. Throw in a discussion of eom vs SMIM (and tubular exh mani for good measure) and you can literally see the smoke coming out of Lukes ears

I got pissed at my spyder and posted it for sale after second gear started grindein. but I decided to keep it and put a new tranny and 6 bolt on it . It was one of those deals I couldnt let pass.some of the questions that I ask may be stuff that you have seen before but Im not asking for a text book answer or a tech post you saw in tunners or something. Im asking from personal experiece from actual people who are running simmilar setups.

Well put, but remember, tech articles and FAQs are written by people that have had the same or similar problems and questions. As one of the few members on the board who actually still own and mod a DSM  I've learned quite a bit by printing out a FAQ and getting hands on with my own car. The articles are only there to guide you through the process, it's up to you to figure out the rest. Otherwise, really modifying cars would be for everyone, but it isn't.

Bill, FYI, I have a SMIM and tubular manifold. WATCH OUT NOW
