My idle is around 1100rpm, and sometimes it surges from 1500 to 2000 non stop (really sucks in traffic it sounds like I'm reving it). I checked all the vacum lines and Dogbox fixed my boost leaks by changing the gaskets in the TB, my idle started to act up after that. I checked everything again and it all checks out. I think I need to adjust the BISS. I read in the VFAQ that you need a scan tool to run item 30 of the scan tool actuator test to hold the IAC motor in the basic step so the idle could be adjusted. Do I have to use a $1800 scan tool like vfaq says or can one of the cheaper $100-$200 scanner do it? Because I don't know anybody with a scanner and I am willing to buy one, but not an $1800 scanner.

Thanks

Eh.. just disconnect your ISC at idle and adjust your BISSS.

If you're having idle issues, you might want to look into making sure your ISC is working correctly. To do so, just unbolt it (3 8mm bolts) but leave it plugged to the harness. Then have a friend turn the key from off to on and make sure the plunger is moving.

You can't just disconnect the harness from the ISC. You need the scanner to force the ISC to its 50% position. This way it has room in both directions to adjust idle.

Since you have a 95, theres a ground plug on the firewall. Unplug a cap, clip a wire to the explosed pin and ground it anywhere on the car. This will tell the ECU to stop moving timing and the ISC. Now you can set idle, use a timing light, etc. Only 95 ODB1 cars (and 1Gs) have this. 96+ cars dont. Unless you have a 95 ECU in your 96+ car, then you can still do it.

The plug is on the firewall kinda between the cruise control box and that middle solenoid. It should be the only harness with a cap on the end terminating it. It might have some tape on it holding it to the firewall that needs to be removed, if nobody's ever pulled it out before.

In that case, DSMLink FTW

I figured disconnecting the ISC wouldn't work because they would have mentioned it in the VFAQ. I'll check tomorrow for that wire on the firewall.

Thanks for the responses
