Can this block be used in a DSM with forged internals and what are the pro and cons??? Besides that it is a Hyundai Motor!

yes, it works fine. you dsm 70 over pistons, dsm rods (stock or eagle or whatever) and THE CRANK THAT CAME IN THE BLOCK. well you don't really need that crank but i highly highly suggest that you find a GOOD 4gcs and use the crank/block combo together. dicking with dsm cranks is a serious no-no. don't mess with cut cranks, polished cranks, blah blah blah just use a good untouched crank.

you'll want to use the cometic head gasket and you'll need the galant 2.4 DOHC cam gears and timing belt. i think it was a 1993/1994 thing only. (but that 2.4 block is garbage)

pay extra extra attention to cleanliness and locktite on the flywheel (ask brent)

everything else should work (but i'm sure i'm forgetting something)

brent's 2.4 scm61 combo was a rediculous street combo. i suggest that :)

Sounds like a real cheap way to get a 4g64 ---- so why is it not done more often???

it is.
just the guys here, nate did it, brent did it, gvr4 did it, and i'm sure more.

Maybe I will buy one and start a build- I found a full short block for $300- So I will need new camgears and what else?

timing belt and you have to cut up your timing case. or maybe there is one that fits i forget..
its really not the gears that you need, its the timing marks. but the gears (or maybe its only 1 gear you need?) are really the same, just they have different timing marks on them because of the longer belt i guess. someone fill me in here.

oh, and if you have a 99gsx like i'm assuming from your user name, throw in all the other 6 bolt conversion parts you'll need.

the 2.4 isn't the most ideal race motor. which is why most don't use it. it doesn't like to rev as much as the 2.0 but the displacement helps with large turbo's on the street.

a more ideal setup for a race car is the 2.1
use a 2.0 crank in a 2.4 block. slightly larger piston bore, but extra long rods (that you would need custom made).
this cuts down on your rod ratio and you can rev the living shit out of it. this is a serious high end motor and would require serious RPM parts involved everywhere else to extract the power. that .1L isn't helping at all, its the ability to turn it another 1k rpms if you dare.

the reverse, the 2.3 is the biggest piece of shit ever. the 2.4 (mitsu) crank in a 2.0 block. you get longer stroke with less rod. (less revs)

the 4gcs is a great middle man. more stroke, more piston, same rod. revs a little less, but the displacement is great.
the 4gcs doesn't have the bottom end webbing that the 4g63 does, but i don't think thats a problem. i havn't heard anyone blowing the crank of of any dsm ever. so don't even worry about that.

a few things may need some "work" to get back on, but so far i've never seen anything serious. like the downpipe will sit i think 6mm higher. not really an issue at all, but just keep that in mind. but if you have a wastegate mounted to the manifold and it touches your hood, remember that its going to seriously collide with the hood when you add those few more cubes.
but most of the time you'd never even notice the extra deck height, and so far all the guys i've known have had no issue using regular dsm parts.

So buying the internals I just buy the stuff for the hyundai motor right... cause before you said something about the dsm rods and pistons

No. It breaks down like this:

Rods - DSM
Pistons - Ross or Wiseco make pistons for this motor with a DSM head and a turbo

The rest of the stuff (rod bearings, crank bearings, seals, gaskets) is the same as DSM so since it's a lot easier to find DSM bearings and seals just get them since they're the same.

I have a couple sets of pistons from Ross for this motor if you're interested.

the pistons arn't really hyundai pistos, they are really dsm pistons that are 70 over or something huge.
advantage of the larger bore is unshrouding the valves. ideally your head will be ported/unshrouded to the new size, and cut to bring back the compression. but that f's up the timing belt.

well if u were wise u would get the block from an 86/87 galant with a 2.4...as i did

they made the hyundai's later, so there is a better chance of finding a lower milage one. plus they were cheap so they were commonly junked for dumb reasons. galants were like double their price.

How much? new or used?

New. I forget the compresison. I can look Monday morning on the box and let you know. $500 for just pistons. I highly recomend you let my guy do the machine work and assembly with Eagles/Mitsu bearings or better. I also have the right block and crank to start out with, and can prepare the entire rotating assembly, or a complete built longblock, and install it in your car.....and whatever else you can afford that you can think up....

How much are we talking for everything- You built longblock combined with my 2g head?? and Let me know how much for everything and seperate part prices! Thanks

I suggest this gets moved to that sticky tech thread. Very good info in here.
