Its time to finally get rid of my beat up K and N cone filter I have on my 2g maf...
and i was wondering what everyones input on air filters is...
ebay air filter i can get for like $15 shipped...
or an expensive aftermarket air filter such as green filters for $65
is thier really any reason to spend the money????

i've never really considered anything other then K&N. my first one got all bent out of shape from working on my car hastily. i'm more careful the second time around
do you really want a no name filter a foot away from your turbo? picture little foamy pieces of goodness being sucked in.

the worry would be it falling apart and getting sucked into the turbo, some filters have a metal mesh in them and can make quick work of a turbo.

alrite...
i ordered a green filter...
they seem pretty reliable.. ive talked to some people that use them and never had a problem..
thanks for the input...
i got the filter cheap as hell from a performance shop down the road from the dealership i work at... soo it was like a difference of like $12

i have a friend who works for roushe out in detroit. he's been testing the 07 cobra for a while. (mustang with the ford gt motor made cheaper) and from the paper panel filter to a drop in K&N it lost 7 rwhp :)

Speed Magazine just did an article about cheap copys of mods being sold on ebay (SS Autochrome, etc). They tested some of the air filters and said would hold some of them up in the office and could perfectly see the guy sitting down the hall. In their filtering tests they would stop twigs and leaves but anything smaller than that would either go right through or go through leaving a hole in the element. I'm sure they tested the most ghetto one they could find on ebay, but for $20 difference thats a serious risk for turbo blade and motor damage.
The best test was a copy of a 240SX oil pan (whatever the fast turbo 240SX is called in Japan) for $200 on ebay that had the same built in windage tray as an aftermarket one ($900) but when they tested it the casting was so cheap that the oil dripped right through the bottom of the pan and they removed it afraid it would crack/shatter on their test 240SX.

air filters are over rated. my brother hasn't had an air filter on his jeep for 4 years. my old boss didn't have on on his charger for almost 10 now.
most of my mustang friends don't use them. they just run a screen on the front of the turbo to deflect any large debris.
