I saw this in a car mag, it's an improvement on a dogbox, I think it may kick the crap out of the DSG.

The animation shows the pucks (they call them bullets), unlike a dogbox only one face is undercut.

So basically you only use the clutch for a stop to first, then just bang thru the gears w/o letting off the gas or touching the clutch?

thats how you drive an 18 wheeler, but you let off the gas.
thats also how i drive my galant when i'm too lazy to push down the clutch.

I think you can put all the bullets in a neutral position, or add a "zero" gear that's not connected to the output shaft, so there is no need for a clutch at all. Eliminating the clutch is a key benefit. Basically you'd bang it into first gear and the car would start moving. The jerkiness of doing that is definitely an issue they have to resolve.

there is no resolution, the planetary transmissions have been able to do this for decades. just add a clutch or torque converter.

Well, since the mechanism would only be used for starts and stops, I'd think something like a viscous coupling / torque converter would work and wouldn't have to be very big as long as it locks up 100% once moving. They have been working on this for over 2 years so there are obviously issues...

well this has always been an issue. there is no such thing as a clutchless transmission. there are automatics that use a clutch, a standard shift that uses a converter, cars WITHOUT transmissions with clutches... but there is no way to start a stop a car that has a running motor without some sort of variable grip.
