So I went to the auto show last weekend and saw the EVO X and loved it. I went to the mitsu dealership and took a peek and they're super nice. This dealership has like 4 of them, but are selling them $5,000 over MSRP because "nobody else has them and everyone wants them." The guy didn't let me test drive one, so I left. I somehow got on an e-mail list or something and so I get an e-mail from the manager of the internet sales department of the same dealership. He then calls me up and tells me to come by this week for a test drive in one! Sweet! He'll try to sell it to me, but I'm not assuming I'm going to buy it. If somehow he manages to get it within my price range and takes my Slowbalt, I'd do it...but I doubt I can get a new EBO for less than $450/month.

Anyway, so I was looking around the net and came across the Bridgewater Acura dealership that has 3 used ones for sale. I've dealt with this dealership before and they seemed pretty good. There's a 2005 wicked white with SSL package, lowered, intake filter and exhaust with 40K for 24K. Warranty included, just serviced. I was thinking about going down to take a look when I go down to Bwater to pick up the Talon from Tom. If I could talk them down a bit, I've been contimplating trading in the slowbalt.

Thoughts?

here's a thought.... a lot of dsmtalker's that get an evo as a DD quickly quit on the dsm. i think its like 90% of them.
u just spend coin on the dsm that you will never really recoop
maybe not a good time for a car that will probably make u forget about the talon?

I am still not sold on the looks of the new Ebo. especially not for $5000 over sticker. If you like it and can get a paymet you can afford though, then go for it. Do you owe anything on the slowbalt? Is Mitsu doing any type of financing specials?

Are you talking about a brand new 08 GSR compared to anything below a X? Two totaly different beasts. Also, you can buy the X for MSRP, call maywood mitsu and ask for Mike and explain who you are and what you drive, and drop EvoM msg board. http://www.evolutionm.net

450/mo. As you know depends on a lot of things. How much down/credit ect. It's a shame you own a talon and not an eclipse(500$ mitsu loyality rebate)

I was also told that the Evo is a "Special" car for dealers. Meaning they don't get anything more, money wise, than what they make on invoice vs MSRP. It doesn't even go on the board as you sold a car. (Sales gets money on how many cars they sell in a month).

Take the MSRP and plug stuff into : http://www.cars.com/go/advice/financing/calc/loanCalc.jsp?mode=full

The dealer also gets a coupon to cut your APR by .5% and I am sure you can roll some free oil changes into it.

I bought mine from Bell Mitsu from Mike the internet guy.

As for 08 vs 05..... 4b11t vs 4g63.... BIG differance. And yes, I am now hooked on evo's... I want a IX MR SE now b/c the 4g63 is just a BEAST of an engine. The 4b11t (stock) doesn't feel/sound the same. I am sure in due time..maybe 16years..it will outshine the 4g63.. I used to want a 1gGSSX...Now its the MRSE.. Just my thoughts

Vs the colbalt....The X gets not so great gas mileage...I've heard the X is a better DD than the 4g63'd ones.

TuRBoTaLooN95
03-26-2008, 01:47 PM
I am more of a fan of the 4g63 as opposed to the new motor they have. That's why I'm mainly interested in these used ones from the Acura dealership.

They have three used Evos on the lot...

1) 2005 White SSL package, lowered, intake exhaust, 41,559 miles, $24,999

2) 2005 Grey MR Edition 6spd stock, 25,949 miles, $29,999

3) 2006 Grey 100% stock 18,482 miles, $28,999

The 06 is the newest and has the lowest miles. If I could talk them down in price a bit, I think that might be my favorite of the three. But I figure I can go check them out when I'm in the area...no harm looking.

I try to never never buy a use "modded" car. Its guaranteed some punkass either beat the shit out of it, or did some crappy ghetto mods that might or not be removed that will bite you in the ass later on, or both.

damn almost 40k for an Ebo? I can think of a dozen cars I'd rather pay 40k for. you're not getting one for 450 a month unless you put 15k down either

Hey I'm kinda in the same boat as you man. I'm sure you remember me and my white GSX...I was planning on buying your CF Hood...Anyway, I sold my GSX and I'm in the market for an EVO.

I've been searching for an EVO IX for a few months now. But I have yet to come across one that has the low mileage, the color and the trim I'm looking for: Under 15k miles, Black/Grey, SE.

I'll tell you right now, the prices that Bridgewater Acura is offering are very high compared to some of the other prices I've seen EVOs go for. There was a white 2006 MR that sold at a Staten Island Mitsu dealer for 26k...the car only had 8000 miles on it...totally stock too. The car sold in a day. I never had a chance...Same story with a Black MR (w/ the SE package) for sale at some Dodge dealer in Philly. They were asking 26,900 and the car had less than 10,000 miles on it...and that sold within a few days too.

So yeah Bridgewater Acura really rips you off with their prices. I've seen quite a few of car ads from them on Autotrader. I would stay away from them. I mean $30,000 for a 2005 MR? That's ridiculous. Oh and if you don't mind traveling...All Star Mitsubishi in Sayreville will let you test drive the X. You don't even need a credit check or anything else. They were practically begging me to test drive their X when I went there looking for a IX...especially when I said I wasn't interested in the X at all.

Just my two cents though...

TuRBoTaLooN95
03-26-2008, 05:12 PM
Yea, my dad lives in Sayreville, so I can definitely stop down by that dealership to take a look to see what they got.

The prices on the evo's at Bridgewater are a little high, but last time I bought a car there I was able to talk them down quite a bit. I bout an 02 RSX for around 14,000 when normally (with similar mileage) they were going for 18-19K. I figure I can stop by and try to drop them down in price. If they go for it, great...if not, at least I get to test drive one!

Get a quote on insurance. I have a very clean record and am 25, and most insurance companies wanted $4k+ a year for an evo.
Also, I financed $32k on a Nissan Titan at 8% interest, which turned to 580/month over 72 months. Food for thought. or work it out here...

Fuck a car that will get you pulled over for G.P.
I just bought a brand new Altima 2.5S CVT and love it, But I've also owned many cars and have gotten tired of manual daily drivers, especially ones that make noise.

It SHOULD be a lot more...but I'm smart....

I list the Talon as my "daily driver" to and from work. The evo is listed as a "pleasure" car only driven here and there.

Switch that around and insurance goes WAAAAAAY up.

I bought my Maxima at Bridgewater Acura and had a good experience. But my friend Josh went to go look at a white evo there a few months later, only to research the car on the evo forums and found out it was heavily modded, ran race gas, raced every weekend, then de-modded, sold, and ended up there. So I guess getting a good car from them is a crap shoot unless you do your research before purchasing.

I wouldn't buy anything until the new RalliArt is released.

When is it supposed to come out?

My qualms with that is first of all, when you buy a brand new car you're already screwing yourself because it depreciates in value the second you drive off the lot. Second, I could spend the same amount and get a used EVO VII or IX with relatively low mileage and have 300hp instead of 235. AND I get the tried and true 4g63 motor instead of a brand new motor that isn't seasoned yet. Plus it's the first year of the model which means there is bound to be problems.

when the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart goes on sale this summer, I'll be one of the first ones in line.

By that time the EboX will have either proven the 4B11 good or a POS. I also wouldn't buy a first year car, I'd wait until the second or at least the end of the first. I wouldn't buy a modded Ebo, period.

Out of the 3 evo's at the Acura dealership, only one is modded. The others are stock. Obviously I don't know if they have ever been modded before, but I can look and hopefully see some signs of parts being removed and/or replaced. I'll be taking a trip down tomorrow after work to check out the evo's, grab some dinner, then pick up Taloon from Tom :D

Friday will be an excellent day.

Also, I was just checking Edmunds.com for the True Market Value (TMV) of the 2006 evo with 19K, and the 05 MR with 26K. In excellent condition with all options, the 06 is worth $23K, and the 05 MR with all options in excellent condition is worth $24K.

I might just print these out and use them as a bargaining point down there. I think $24K for an MR with 26K miles is a pretty sweet deal. 8)

Hey man, there's a brand new listing on Autotrader.com for a White 2006 EVO IX for sale at some Queens Mitsubishi Dealership. $27,995 and it only has 8200 miles on it. I think it might be an MR too. There's no pics but you should print that out and mention it to the Acura dealership. I think that'd be the ultimate way to drive down the price on their 2005 MR.

here is some good advice that ive learned in my past 6 months owning my evo..

5 Things to think about when BUYING AN EVO:
1. Do Not buy an 03-04 ( Your warrantee is almost over and beleive me you WILL be using that)
2. Mileage is key. Evo's fall apart at 30k. After mines 30k birthday, center diff went, Acd pump went, Both front wheel bearings/Hubs went, and miscellaneous parts had to be replaced, ( all covered under my warrantee of course) $5,000 later . So i recomend looking for an 05-06 with 20k or around that , the less and stocker the better.
3. Look for a bone stock one. They are out there, but mods mean headaches.. ive modded mine nicely for next to nuthing soo far soo its not expensive to do your own stuff.
4. Purchase it from a respected dealer
5. Make sure you have a dealer that supports your modding habits.( Rt 10 mitsu made a deal with me cause the first service i got done, they were amazed it was bone stock and never touched. I told them my plans of the car and they have kept their word soo far, honoring over $5,000 worth of service work/parts since i baught the car :D

Just a little insight that i have learned soo far... also the usual things to rememeber, dont act excited when you go to look at these cars, thats how dealers rape u. pretend its just a car, also make sure you inspect everything before thinking about liking one.. im talking check bolts on manifolds, check to see if ECU was touched, look to see if stock exhaust bolts are on

just my 10 cents there :P

TuRBoTaLooN95
03-27-2008, 07:45 PM
Thanks dude, I definitely will be inspecting them thoroughly!

I'm really interested in the 05 MR edition. It has < 20K miles, bone stock (at least as far as I can tell from the ad). I will inspect everything including bolts that look like they were removed (when they put it back to stock) belts, fluids, etc. I'm even going to have them put it up on a lift before I even think about buying it. I'm really not in a hurry to buy it or even sure I'm going to go through with it. I'm really just looking. But if it looks good and the price is right, I'll definitely take one home.

Thanks for the advice Mark. I'll have to catch up with you if I do return home with an ebo.

The 4B11 so far has proven itself so far to be a great motor. Once some ECU controll comes out it will be making some serious power. We are making 376whp/382ft-lbs with exhaust, IC pipe kit, BOV, intake pipe, MBC, and a few gallons of race gas mixed with pump. Very fun car to drive, much quieter then the Evo VIII and handles better.

That's awesome you guys made so much power with just a few bolt-ons!

However the new EVO X was just way out of my price range. Even the EVO IX's that I found were in the high 20's, close to $30K. I went to look at the 05 MR and the 05 IX at Bridgewater. The MR ran like crap, so I immediately said no. It was also modified. The 06 was great, drove smooth low miles, etc. However, they wanted $29K and would only go down to $28K. So I left.

Yesterday I was just screwing around on the net and found an 03 Evo VIII with 35K miles on Ebay for $21,999 that was at the Paul Miller Audi dealership in Parsippany. So I called the place, and took a drive over to take a look. Car looked good, interior and exterior were 10/10 as far as I was concerned. Didn't look to be modified. Only thing I found was wiring for a subwoofer and amp still in the car running to the trunk. It drove great, smooth, etc. So I talked the guy down to $20K even, and he gave me $12K for the slowbalt. Also got a 4 year 48,000 mile warranty with it that covers everything. Did some paperwork and I took her home!

I'll take some pics shortly when I take her out for a drive and get the stickers off.

:D

I told myself I wouldn't modify it, but I decided I want to get a turbo timer, boost gauge, and Evo IX diverter valve (bov). That's it.....for now.

If he bought an extended warranty from Paul Miller it isn't going to show up in the Mitsu dealers' computer. Its got to be through either an aftermarket warranty company or maybe Paul Miller will make the repairs and warranty it in house. I'm pretty confident its the first of those two. Be careful with the aftermarket warranty, they have lots of clauses in there to help them deny claims you make for repairs.

Oh, and congrats on the new ride.

Guess my plan to snag a high mileage 03 evo in 2009 for $6000 will be only a dream.

Good luck with the new car...watch the rear brakes. Mine killed a set of pads front and rear and front rotors at only 30k miles, I couldn't believe it since every car I ever had went 100+k miles before needing rear pads or rotors.

Oh, and I can't drive the EVO down to pick up the Talon because the GF can't drive stick just yet.

Good luck with the new car...watch the rear brakes. Mine killed a set of pads front and rear and front rotors at only 30k miles, I couldn't believe it since every car I ever had went 100+k miles before needing rear pads or rotors.

Thanks. I'm probably going to put new pads on soon anyway just because I have no idea how long these pads have been on. The rotors look good, so new pads all around for me. Better be safe then sorry. Also will be putting in a turbo timer and boost gauge soon. Hopefully that'll be the extent of my modding for a while.

Great Success Jeff. I can't wait to see/drive it. I'm gonna miss Pika though. I'm glad I got to finally take her out before the inevitable happened. I'm happy you finally got your dream; fast dsm + daily driver Evo, what else could you ask for?

yea...after our little incident where you couldn't figure out that you were in fact NOT in Hoboken, I decided you can't drive the car until you learn your NJ geography.

Welcome to the Evo-Side! You could swap your talon engine in the Evo....

The car looks clean as hell! How's the tranny?

4doors is the way to go!

Tranny shifts smooth as butter. Makes me dread driving the Talon again. It looks to be in great condition, low miles for a 5 year old car. I also love having 4 doors. This is my first 4 door car. So much room to put shit with easy access! Even a good sized trunk!

o yeah and jeff, you tottally wanna be me!!!!
u get a 2gb talon that is identical to me
than u buy a red evo
and u have a blonde girlfriend!!!!!!

ill sell you my soul for $100

Woah woah woah. First we both had 2ga green Talons and I DEFINITELY had mine first! Plus mine was waaaay cooler. Second, I don't really know what hair color my gf is...she dyes it every other month. It was some shade of red when I originally met her. Don't be jealous. But yea, we'll have to get together and cruise in the EBOs.

Nice EVO...Paul Miller still has the Ebay auction running though! And yes Bridgewater Acura rips people off on EVOs & STIs.

I really like the red - I don't see many evos around my area and definately not in red...should we set up a NJDSM aka Evo meet?
