we arrive at the hotel (more of that later) and i get my press pass and we head over to the expo/ceremonial start. we pitch in and help get the arch constructed.
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/39736-2/DSC_0252.jpg
i meet ken block again, and whip out some medium sized posters i had printed out of him from rally main, and he autographs them for me, along with a poster from that crazy snowboarding on a rally car video. he's a nice guy and he even chatted with me for a few minutes.

we left there and headed over to a mexican place by the hotel. we found a flier for it in the hotel lobby
MEX MIX mmmmm
horrible pic i got while driving by, totally forgot to take a pic of this place
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/39635-2/DSC_1482.jpg
horrible color balance whatever
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/39633-2/DSC_0333.jpg
i got a chicken burrito, it was dreamy
okay here comes the fun.
the hotel was called the nevele grand, we called it the shining meets resident evil. i totally forgot to take exterior pics of this place. it was HUGE and set up like an old college. a few main buildings, and then other odd buildings scattered around the campus. ALL OF WHICH ARE CONNECTED VIA HAUNTED TUNNELS
they owned a few hundred acres.
the catskills was a HOPPING community in the 30's and 40's. maria's dad used to earn weekend cash as a drummer in the lobby bands. its where EVERYONE from new york city used to go on vacation, and on weekends. its really a beautiful area but once air travel became viable, it turned into a ghost town. its all now owned by the jews, 90% of the catskills is now poor people or huge jew camps. i can't express to you how many jew camps are up there.
on with the hotel adventure:
i'll try and find exterior pics later, but picture a 30's-40's HUGE hotel in dire need of repair. it looks like its been abandoned for a few decades.
we were all so spooked to hell of this place that we decided the only way to not be axe murdered by a ghost was to go out and find them. my friend brian probably has better pictures since he took 3 times as many but he's been lacking at getting them to me.

we ventured up into the "tower" and i got this horrible picture in the dark rain of the campus. you can see one odd thing, this HUGE hotel has no parking lot. it was built at a time when you didn't drive there. everyone just parks randomly all over. really odd.
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/38796-3/DSC_0353.jpg

i can't express to you how scary this place was. we wandered around the hotels through the underground passages for HOURS and didn't see a single person. my heart was RACING the entire time. i was really fucking scary at times.

then we went back to our room and crashed out. no spectator areas in the morning so we slept in and visited the first service which took place behind our hotel. (which is why we stayed there)
DAY 2
we wake up and head over the MEX MIX and i get a breakfast chicken burrito, it was fantastic.
we head out to the service, its raining. some random shots of the service:

so we had to leave the service early to beat the rally cars to the stage.
when i say this stage was awesome, it was fucking AWESOME
it was tarmac (year right) but it was some horrible fucking tarmac. it was basically gravel with a little bit of tar. it was pouring out, and a off camber downhill 140* turn.
AWESOME
i took shelter with my press pass behind a rock wall/fence thing near the exit of the turn. this proved to be pretty fucking stupid and i moved after the first passing.
it was VERY hard to get good pictures. it was pouring out, my shit was fogging up, something got in my buttons making my shutter not work right (button stuck half way down). all my equipment was soaked and i'm covered in dirt and so is my camera. cars come so fast its impossible to set up on them. i got a FEW good pics, but most of them kinda suck in comparison to what i could have gotten. oh well, next time.

http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/40806-2/DSC_0731.jpg
okay so that concluded the first half of that day.
we then left the stage and headed over the MEX MIX and i got steak fajita's, they were fucking awesome, seriously best i ever had. there was a hint of BBQ sauce in there, omg good.
we moved on from there to gold course set at another haunted hotel.
this was the road, it was getting dark so my pics are getting grainy and even shittier.

http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/39855-2/DSC_0930.jpg
we then headed over to MEX MIX and i got enchiladas, they were fantastic
we go back to the hotel, and venture out more into the underground liar of the hotel. we find some people that tag along, and we run into some obliterated guys getting a wiffle ball bat game going in one of the abandoned lobbies. it was pretty funny. i was a lot less scared but maria was freaking out because of the germs.
we go to bed.
DAY 3
we wake up early, fucking MEX MIX isn't open yet so we get some dunkin donuts and head over to the stage.
this stage isn't as exciting but i got some decent pics.

okay now we left there and headed over to MEX MIX and i got tostadas, they were awesome.
okay now this stage was UNREAL
we had to drive down the stage to get to the spectator area. we drove through the most beautiful piece of road i've ever seen but the area was about 2.5 miles down the road. we climbed this hill of death to park, and i got my shit ready and said fuck it and tried to see how far i could make it up the road before i got run over. i made it all the way there, sweating to DEATH. i had a ton of clothes on, that morning it was SNOWING and by the time i got to my spot it was at least 60* and i had flannel everything on and a rubber rain suit. i stripped and got ready for pics.
this was the south gully hill climb, AWESOME
where's trumps? :D it was a safety car but sounded MEAN

http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/39951-2/DSC_1470.jpg
after this stage maria and steve headed home, they had other things to do, ryan and brian and myself carried on.
then we headed back over to where we were for the first stage of that day
we missed block by about a minute and a half, everyone said he came through so fast he was on 3 wheels in the turn for most of it.
oh well
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/41196-2/DSC_1485.jpg
2nd passing

http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/41304-2/DSC_1581.jpg
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/41306-2/DSC_1582.jpg
the rest of the pics were mediocre.
one anecdotal story of that stage though, between cars i heard this crashing sound and a little kid yell DEEEEEAR!
i look up and see a fucking dear TEARING down the side of the hill right through were ALL the spectators were. it runs basically INTO all the spectators and people are diving out of the way. it leaps into the road narrowly missing a sentra, cuts across the yard and across the street AGAIN on the other side of the turn, narrowly missing the same sentra. haha, i was too stupefied to take pics.
we left that stage and followed the galantvr4 crew over to the rally cabin. i faught as hard as i could to stay awake but after a cheeseburger and macaroni i was done and passed out on the couch. we ate breakfast in the morning and took off. it was fun hanging out with the gvr4 crew but my crew was DEAD from 3 days of rally and the haunted hotel excursions till 2am.
i can't wait till the fall when the 2nd new york rally comes through, they are a blast! definitely going back to that haunted hotel :D

OUTA MY WAY SPECTATORS
http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/40806-2/DSC_0731.jpg
okay so that concluded the first half of that day.
we then left the stage and headed over the MEX MIX and i got steak fajita's, they were fucking awesome, seriously best i ever had. there was a hint of BBQ sauce in there, omg good.
we moved on from there to gold course set at another haunted hotel.
this was the road, it was getting dark so my pics are getting grainy and even shittier.

http://www.gtluke.com/gallery/d/39855-2/DSC_0930.jpg
we then headed over to MEX MIX and i got enchiladas, they were fantastic
we go back to the hotel, and venture out more into the underground liar of the hotel. we find some people that tag along, and we run into some obliterated guys getting a wiffle ball bat game going in one of the abandoned lobbies. it was pretty funny. i was a lot less scared but maria was freaking out because of the germs.
we go to bed.
DAY 3
we wake up early, fucking MEX MIX isn't open yet so we get some dunkin donuts and head over to the stage.
this stage isn't as exciting but i got some decent pics.
maria joins in on the fun

okay now we left there and headed over to MEX MIX and i got tostadas, they were awesome.
okay now this stage was UNREAL
we had to drive down the stage to get to the spectator area. we drove through the most beautiful piece of road i've ever seen but the area was about 2.5 miles down the road. we climbed this hill of death to park, and i got my shit ready and said fuck it and tried to see how far i could make it up the road before i got run over. i made it all the way there, sweating to DEATH. i had a ton of clothes on, that morning it was SNOWING and by the time i got to my spot it was at least 60* and i had flannel everything on and a rubber rain suit. i stripped and got ready for pics.
this was the south gully hill climb, AWESOME
where's trumps? :D it was a safety car but sounded MEAN

on this turn NOBODY was even putting a tire in the ditch so i thought i was safe until block decided to put his CAR in the ditch. his tire tracks turned when he saw me. i'm an idiot and almost died.

after this stage maria and steve headed home, they had other things to do, ryan and brian and myself carried on.
then we headed back over to where we were for the first stage of that day
we missed block by about a minute and a half, everyone said he came through so fast he was on 3 wheels in the turn for most of it.
oh well

the rest of the pics were mediocre.
one anecdotal story of that stage though, between cars i heard this crashing sound and a little kid yell DEEEEEAR!
i look up and see a fucking dear TEARING down the side of the hill right through were ALL the spectators were. it runs basically INTO all the spectators and people are diving out of the way. it leaps into the road narrowly missing a sentra, cuts across the yard and across the street AGAIN on the other side of the turn, narrowly missing the same sentra. haha, i was too stupefied to take pics.
we left that stage and followed the galantvr4 crew over to the rally cabin. i faught as hard as i could to stay awake but after a cheeseburger and macaroni i was done and passed out on the couch. we ate breakfast in the morning and took off. it was fun hanging out with the gvr4 crew but my crew was DEAD from 3 days of rally and the haunted hotel excursions till 2am.
i can't wait till the fall when the 2nd new york rally comes through, they are a blast! definitely going back to that haunted hotel :D
