Anyone going? I'm getting out a bit earlier than I anticipated, so hopefully i'll be in the pits by 7:30 or so.
I should be there 5:30 or so.

I'm going...
T, are you meeting me at my house first?
Tom you should too, it's on the way.
if you guys are all going maybe I'll drop by too. although it'll take an hour so I could be there no earlier than 6:30

see you guys there.
Nice to meet you guys!
I got just two runs, got there too late and the track was packed crazy. No scanner so:
60' 2.05 1.92
1/4 13.65 13.36
mph 101.6 104.2
That just coming back from work, trunk full of shit (spare, lots of tools, hydraulic jack!), AFRs around 10 or even high 9, stutterbox set at 6K however absolutely no traction in 1st (205 55 16 kumho whatever tires). I think I still got issues over 6K but my palm is charging and I can't get my logs for now.
At least nothing broken. :)

Same bro, it's nice to put faces to names!
12.16@116.95 - 1.73 short, shifted too early
12.26@117.15 - 1.92 short, spun
12.27@116.92 - 1.91 short, spun
gay! I'm also pig fat with all the weight that i street drive with.

i'm assuming that was you on 80?
i was fucking around but then i didn't realize you were actually going to go and i was in 5th :(
well, not that i should be fucking around with fast cars in a 14b galant with like 500lbs of shit in the trunk.
i suck

oh fuck, i ran across 2 2g gsx's on 80 like 1/2 hour ago. a silver one that wouldn't give me the time of day and a fast black one. and a truck full of kids waving shit out the windows at me.
who the hell was that?
they were definitely coming home from island.
I took 80 and did like 60-65 almost all the way, have never driven so slow on it :)
Well, my night didn't go as planned, but does it ever. All runs were done on Sunoco 93 octane.
First pass, 12.8@108. Set the launch RPM wayy too low for a lightened flywheel and bogged a good bit.
Then 12.5@110 with another fucked launch.
Followed by a 12.2@111.
And finally a 12.7@109, missed 2nd gear bad. I got my best 60ft this pass and the log of the pass looked the cleanest of them all. Sucks I had to miss a gear.
The car is flowing A LOT of air. 45lbs/min at 23-24psi with a TD06 20g. However, I think my stock shortblock has had enough. It knocks and pulls timing no matter how the tune is. You can't really go fast when you have less than 10 degrees of timing in third and fourth gear. :? The car is also still pig heavy. About 3300lbs with me in it and a quarter tank of gas. I guess I can't complain with a low 12sec pumpgas street car. But I want more. So, next time out I will try and get at least 100lbs out of it, run just race gas, get the numbers I want out of it, and then park it until I have a new shortblock built.
It was nice to see a few familiar faces. Also nice meeting you TK. Good luck with your car!

Well atleast I improved my time just a lil in the IS. 12.6 at 112. And dude my buddy didnt get you guys on video cuz he forgot, idiot.
who were you? I saw a few other DSMs there
Soo I'm looking at my log and see several things:
- AFRs drop to 9.9... huge potential there I believe, although I was seeing some knock (3-5) but that's probably because of 50-40C intake temps. I need some sort of cold air box.
- I shifted too early sometimes, I can see it will still pull after 7K so I should shift at like 7.5K. Maybe set my check engine light as shift light. Got to shift faster too.
Next time I go I'll have a second car with me and thus drop like 100lbs of shit from the car

You were there last night? Yesterday as a huge mess IMO. It was tough trying to keep up with everyone and meet with everyone when the lanes kept changing  I'm definitely going tomorrow for tnt so if anyone wants to go, i'll see you in the pits at 12!

not that you wouldn't have killed me but those kids in the truck wouldn't have laughed so hard :(

yeah i was instigating because the chance of running into 2 dsm's on the highway at 11:30 that DIDN'T belong to njdsm members is like 1 in a thousand.
i was telling steve "these guys have to be on the board, lets fuck with them"

It was good to see everyone there last night, but I was pissed it was so crowded. Last week I could have easily gotten 20 runs in, last night I got 4.
Horrible night for me. First run I got the red light because I creeped to much off the line with the stutterbox somehow. Missed second, managed to turn on my left blinker, and did a short pull in 3rd. Didn't even get a time, but probably was like 16 at 90mph.
I couldn't run faster than 12.8 last night as my tune was horrible! I kept having to pull timing/add fuel to get rid of knock. Around 4K RPM I was running 4 degrees of timing!!! I also realized when I got home that I'm an idiot and had 91 octane in the car. I stopped at Sunoco to get gas and just said fill super because I'm so used to saying that. Then I realized that Sunoco's "Super" is 91 and the "Ultra" is 93. :( That's probably why I was knocking so bad.
I'm going to try to check for boost leaks in the next week or two and fix whatever I can. Then I think I'm going to put in some race gas and see what I can do at the track. After that it's time for a SMIM, bigger FMIC, and some tuning.
Some vid's my gf captured with my point and shoot digital camera. The first one is funny, you can see my blinker going halfway down the track.

I started looking at my logs from the track yesterday and found a few interesting points.
With a stock intake manifold, head, and block (with 156K!) I was flowing 40.5lb/min at 24psi. That was pretty cool.
Injector duty cycle went to like 96%!!!!
AFR was around 10.8-10.9 according to the wideband, but I also have a decent exhaust leak before the sensor.
Intake temp was like 112 :(
So I'm pretty sure my injectors are either not 780cc injectors or they are flowing like absolute crap. I'm debating on whether or not to send them out to get flow tested/cleaned or to just get slightly bigger injectors that are new.
I need to upgrade my intercooler as it is not efficient anymore.
A SMIM is in order
Fix boost leak/exhaust leaks.

Yea, since I won't be able to afford new parts any time soon, I think I might take the Talon to the track again with some race gas and see what it can do. Then I'll tear her down for some work:
Tap manifold for EGT gauge probe
Coat Exhaust components with super high temp paint
Heat wrap on o2 dump tube
Fix exhaust leaks
Weld o2 bung in downpipe for wideband instead of having it WAAAAY in the back
Find a 2gb Talon front bumper and replace
Install bigger FMIC core and short route piping
Install GM MAF/MAF-T combo
Install SMIM and remove/relocate necessary parts
Small battery
Spring/Shock combo
Finish installing prothane motor mounts
Yea...maybe I'll get that done before the snow comes
I don't have it much easier, I got to get some better shocks for the H&Rs I got, rebuild basically the whole rear suspension (I even got a whole junk rear subframe so I can do it at leisure and then just swap the new stuff on the car), get a laptop so I can tune real time, get a new hood (preferably CF), a set of good 225/235 45 17s... throw out all the useless junk in the rear, the car is a two seater race car, not a daily, period (this finally got into my thick head  ) I even want to repaint it but that's going a bit too far.

uhhhh... don't you have a 16g on there? I'm kinda curious how that makes the car unstreetable, and now a "race car"

dont get all philosophical on me. Do you have a 16g? Or am I mistaken? I know you've got all that other stuff, 18,000cc injectors, dsmlink equivalent, comp camps etc., I just fail to see how a 1g with a 16g so blatantly gets the title of 'race car'. No disrespect to you or whatever, but I just see that as a bold move. Unless I havent been keeping up with your mods recently and you no longer have that little pea shooter in there 8)
TuRBoTaLooN95
04-22-2008, 09:30 AM
Kyle, none of us have "race cars", but as you well know these cars aren't always the most comfortable to drive in everyday. Also, keep in mind Talha ran a 12.1 on a 16g
Exactly. Also please notice the laughing smilie in my post - you're taking it way more seriously than me. You put "unstreetable" in my mouth. I simply mean that so far I thought I'll be making a fast-ish fun weekend car I would sometimes drive around but I realised I just get frustrated when I daily drive it because of all the traffic and no opportunity to open up (I don't like street racing) and this all goes away at the track. So I'm going to cut down a lot on street driving the DSM and think much less about things that are useless on the track. That's all at this time and I don't want to speculate beyond that.
And don't call me out on having just a 16g, I'll move up only when I have maxed it and learned enough.
TuRBoTaLooN95
04-22-2008, 10:55 AM
I'm getting to be the same way with my Talon. It sucks driving in traffic because of the clutch and especially now because I have some stalling issues with the new setup. Also with the 50 trim, the car lags and feels slow unless I really give it some gas. But this is why I have the evo. Quick spool up and more comfortable to drive in on a daily basis. I'm glad now I stuck with the OEM clutch instead of upgrading. Traffic effing sucks on 80 in the morning no matter what time I leave.
For arguments sake, a member of the dsmlink boards just dropped 457whp with an evoIII 16g and E85. Trapped 121 on a piss poor pass. And, don't forget about Curt Brown and running 10's with his 16g.
Damn, makes me feel like shit for having a 20g.

i dont care what #'s it CAN put down, I put down some decent numbers when i had my e316 on my talon. All i was referring to is the fact that a 16g has very fast spool, very minimal lag, and doesnt require any sort of mods that would cause a car to be a track only car. If you want to only use it as your track car, fine with me, I honestly could not care less what you wish to do with your cars. I was just curious as to why you felt it so necessary not daily drive it. No harm intended

I think we're straying from the topic a bit here...but what else is new.
With very stiff suspension, no power from idle till 4k, and a 6 puck clutch, I am very glad my eclipse is no longer my daily driver. That, and my A/C stopped working and summer is right around the corner.

I don't understand why you equate turbo size with whether a car is pleasant to daily drive on the street or not. But this "discussion" we're having here is really a waste of time.

I might go if I can get a hold of some race gas before then so I can get a good race gas tune
If you want to drive to Paterson I know where to get 104 and/or 107 octane I think unleaded.

That's super far unfortunately. I can't seem to find anything local. There's gotta be something.
EDIT: Just realized the Sunoco in Ledgewood has 100 octane. I guess that'll do for now.
And I'm going to try paint thinner. :) I'm reading too many good things about it.

jeff, bruce's used to sell it. But it probably was only by the barrel, and i'm sure he was charging outrageous prices. Or just buy it at island, also probably high prices, but beats driving to paterson (for you), and lugging the can all the way back to your place.

dont know how far clinton would be for you, but there is a place called rockys rods or something like that. they sell race fuel. i think they even have like 100 in the pump.
I got 1gal of Toluene from Sherwin Williams for an outrageous $16!!! I got about 7 gals of gas right now so I'll just pour it all in and see what happens.
If it works as advertised I might be heading to Island tomorrow evening. :D
For the money though I'm better off with the 104 unleaded so I expect this to be an one-off experiment.
Jeff, if I am indeed coming I might be able to bring one tube (I got small 2.5gal ones) of that for you.
Adriano
04-24-2008, 09:09 PM
What's wrong with regular 93 octane? You can make up to ~450whp on it and still be safe. Or just buy 2-3 gal of race gas at the track and mix it. Thats what I do all the time.
Adriano
Not on an EvoIII for sure. :)
Hm so I put the toluene and drove and boosted around for a good half hour, it should have mixed well enough but I can't see a big difference in my logs. Except my engine definitely sounds smoother. I'll drive it to work tomorrow to try some more pulls.
Decided to quit today when after topping 3rd on an on-ramp (rt80) I arrived almost right next to a state trooper who for some reason didn't notice me and I quietly took the next exit.

Thanks dude, but I won't be able to make it this weekend.
Plus I want to put in a couple gallons to see if I can run more timing without knocking. If I can, I'll take it to the track again with the race gas. Otherwise I'll just wait for some new parts.
Is 25psi too much for the EvoIII?

You'd probably be better off running 22-23psi and more timing advance.
no more tuning today, blew a small water hose this morning and had to turn back  hate little stupid shit like that.

its great that we have it here now... specially since regular fuel out here costs $3.69/gal, just short of $4 for premium. Unfortunately I didnt catch the cost of the E85, but should I give it a shot in Jeep?

A bunch of the Titan guys did a comparison and found there was just about no benefit, price-wise. E85 may be cheaper but your mileage goes down with it as well, negating any decent benefit for your wallet.
