My friend is looking to get his rx-7 tuned but wasnt sure where to bring it. I told him Ivey was probably his best bet. Is there anyone in jersey that specializes in rotory motors? Thanks

with that awesome description of a car i sure know who to send you to, a puerto rican with a box of holley springs and a blow torch to heat the nitrous bottle, or the AEM FD pro, same guy right? i mean we are talking about the 1 model of rx7 with 1 engine style and no modifications right?

wow...seemed like a simple enough question.

does anyone know a good guy who knows how to tune rx-7's?

if you do, say:
"yes, I know (insert name here). he's located (insert location). you should go see him"

if you do not, say:
"no, I do not know of any good rx-7 tuning guys. best of luck to you old chum!"

the end

:(

anyway.. this guy Diego that baught a set of rims off me awhile ago owns a place called DVS rotary in NY . not far from here. he knows his shit and is a tuning master. im sure his shop would be up for it. check on some Rx7 forums.. should be simple enough

Thanks for your help guys. My friend asked around on the rx7forums but they are all lukes apperently and tell him to search elsewhere. I asked who knew alot about rotary motors not who was an aem master etc. He doesnt have an engine managmnet yet so im not asking who the master of what is, but someone who knows rotary motors would be able to give him advice of the best setup to use and also tune it the best.

i think what luke is trying to convey is that you should at least give the year of the RX7. I know my old carbed '82 GSL would need to be tuned much different than a '93 TT.

go to nopistons.com or teamfc3s forum. rx7 club was gay back in 2003.

There is a guy, John, in Newark. Big RX7 guy, tunes em all and knows his way around em. He owns the shop on Jefferson st, cartoys or something.

i know Acosta has a lot of rx7's and stuff. His shop is in Midland Park, down the street from Taco Bell. If you want anymore info i can try to point you in the right direction.

I understand luke but like i said im not looking for a tuning expert, im looking for an rx-7 expert. Every car is different, especially this one. Its a 93tt. My friend hasnt had the car very long and wants a professional advice and someone who has tuned these cars before. Apparently these cars need a tune even after only a downpipe is installed or it will run with dangerous A/F's. Thanks for replies guys.

The engine that belongs in these cars somehow ended up in 97+ corvettes.
Rotaries are only good for novelty. He should take it to an RX7 specialist and have a LS1/T56 swapped in.

Yeah, when I was in school for automotive engineering, one of my teachers favorite things was to rag on Mazda for the rotary motor in general, especially the turbo control systems on the TT gen. He was saying that the car has just about likely the worst % of catastrophic failure and warranty work for a low production car.

example: mazda builds 100,000 cars and 50,000 blow up motors during warranty years. (I just made the #'s up to illustrate the point.)

Guess that car was the running joke among auto engineers at the time when the car was new 1993-1994, that mazda could be dumb enough to put such a fragile control system coupled with a super wimpy engine and warranty it.

Whatever you do with that car, be 150% sure that the toonering is done by a specialist in the TT rx7. As luke alluded to, Im sure there are big differences between RX7 tuners since you can get the car with a carb or with the most complicated control system on the planet.

I swear, you might be able to control a 747 with the hoses and valves that run the turbo system.

I think the ls swap is in the future but for now he told me hes just gonna push the twins and the motor as far as they will go and worry about it when the motor might eventually go. The motor i believe is newer with only like 20k, not that it means much. But yeah hes looking for someone who knows these car and can make some good power while hopefully maintaining some reliability.

I can see where Luke was coming from. Chances are, you wouldn't take your carbed big block 1969 Camaro for a tune as you would your 2003 LS1 EFI one.

Yes, but you can take your 1g/2g/evo/vr-4 to pretty much any DSM tuning shop.

Yeah but can you take your any year/model/modded RX7 to any shop?

Luke's gripe is that if you are going to take the time to post, then add in all of the details. That way you might get more useful posts. Shit, it only takes a couple more seconds to add the details.

Sorry i didnt think any more info was needed. I thought there would be some people that would specialize in rotary motors and accodring to some peoples responses there are. I didnt think it was that hard of a question to answer. If you dont know anyone who does what i asked then dont respond. Whiteturbo, dre, rotorocker, etc didnt have a problem answering the question.
