well sometime in the next few days ill be moving back to my moms house since me and the girl broke up. Well since im not paying for a lexus anymore i want to pay for something new. I want to get a CBR 600rr within the next month or so and im going for my permit in the next week.
just wanted to know if anybody here has any hook up that can get me the bike for sticker price or referr me to a good dealer ship. ill be getting a DSM some time soon but with the gas prices now a bike will be alot cheaper and easier to ride.
also i wanted to know of any bike courses or schools i can take to get cheaper insurance and anything else that comes with the package.
i have about 2k i want to put down on a bike and finance the rest.
if anybody has a cbr let me know how it rides. i plan on getting a new 2008 cbr.
Practice makes perfect. You can take the NJ state course and not have to take the riding exam at the DMV. Pending you pass the course, you get a paper to bring when you go get your license and it waives the riding exam. Thats a great start for a beginner rider. However, if you've never ridden a bike or even rode a friend's friend's bike around the block one time, don't bother with a 600cc bike. Almost all new 600's run 10's in the quartermile, my bike doing 10.5 and the honda RR doing 10.4. Its a lot of bike for a newbie and they realize that at the last minute. Plus, its freaking hilarious watching these guys push their feet out when taking a turn. I doubt you want to be that guy. Also, I hope you're over 22 years old. Under 22 in the state of NJ and you get ASS raped for insurance. Its almost pointless to own a bike unless you have nice cashflow.
If you do end up getting the RR, its probably the most comfortable 600 I've ever ridden. The rider seat position is great. I personally love my GSXR for the twisties. The placement of the rearsets, handlebars, and seat really sets you up for cornering. However, not as comfortable to cruise on like an RR.

You can call me stuipd but I bought my gsx-r brand new in march of 05. Had my buddy ride it from Motorcycle mall to Union where I live. Hopped on it with just my permit stalled out 2 times and that was that. Never rode a motorcycle in my life and that was the start. I know you probably have the itch but check for insurance quotes before you go and buy. If you have some points it can get a lil expensive. I have to find the number for the lady Justine who took me for my road test. It was 100 bucks and she takes you 2 hours earlier to a course the same as the DMV is set up and you practice on a scooter that she provides for you . It was cake, but I rode on my permit for 3 months before going to take the road test. If you need any info just let me know.

7 points is not cool. I have 2 points and have Rider for insurance. The way they work is you cant have any more that 2 moving violations within 3 years. I have 2 so if I get another I get dropped. I pay 840 a year for full coverage. But i have friends that pay like 2000 for full coverage on 600cc bikes which is nuts. Rider wants 3100 a year for me for full coverage for a 1000cc. The insurance is crazy so you should deff call around before you buy a bike and make sure that the insurance is affordable. Get the license before you buy also cause I only know of 1 company, Formost insurance which will insure you with a permit. NJMotorcycleroadtest.com call her Justeen (908) 591-4141

I remember a few years back when I first got a bike, I think it was Progressive that I was covered under, gave a discount if you were an AMA member. It might be worth the $39 (last I recall) membership fees in savings--then again it might not be. Right now I'm about mid $400 for my Ninja 650's coverage/year and that's without the AMA member discount.

ha, hope to see you on the road :P as im getting a bike this summer as well. I'm goin for kawi, but i know Crazy Freddies in ny has a bunch of bikes for cheaper than anywhere else. Also any kawi dealer is doing 6% financing for 2 years, fuck hondas. Motorcycle mall i have heard mixed reviews, abundance of inventory yet terrible customer service. also, my friend (21yrs) just got his 07 zx6r for ~600/yr with all state. definetly not the assraping that was above mentioned.

If you gonna go the Motorcycle mall route, let me know. I have a buddy that works there and will beat any deal you get as long as its on paper so I can show him. As far as your buddys insurance, thats great for him. Looks like ill be giving Allstate a call tomorrow. I wonder what his limits of liability are ?
I'm not sure how you guys are finding these cheap rates. I pay 1340 a year for full coverage through NJ Rider on an 07 GSXR 600. Thats a tad higher than their usual rate because I live in a "high risk" area. Not too sure how that works out as there really isn't anything high risk about Hawthorne, NJ. I called Progressive Direct and they wanted 4000 a year for full coverage. Foremost is good too and they also cover aftermarket parts up to $2500 in value for free. However, they quoted me at 2100. I gave up looking after that as rider seems to be the cheapest. I'm 22 with a clean license and no accidents. I'll call allstate now seeing what brent pays and my policy is up at the end of June.
To be honest with you, my bike is the first full size bike i've ever owned. But I've been riding dirt bikes from age 11. I know its not the same as a street bike, but nearly 10 years of that kind of experience sets you up for a street bike. You just have to be really careful. Not just about your own skill to ride the bike, but skills necessary to menuever around douchebags that don't think bikes are part of the road. Trust me, it happens and a lot. I respect cars on the road, don't ride like an idiot, and try to be as careful as possible, but there is always that car or truck or tractor/trailer that just didn't see you. Having over 100whp literally underneath you doesn't help either.
Whatever you end up doing, good luck, and hit me up for a cruise. 8)

They kill you guys on these newer bike, huh? I pay $75 a year for liability on my 1986 GSXR 750. Even if I don't ride it at all this year I don't mind spending the $75. So when are we going for a ride so I don't let my $75 go to waste?

I happened to ask an agent what my cost would be if I didn't have full coverage and the lowest possible coverage rates and it ended up being like $150 a year.

get medical insurance for the bike, and max it out.
if you don't, you're a fucking idiot. learn from phil and i and don't cheap out on insurance.

I don't have the information off hand, but i'm sure you can find it at the DMV. Its something like $250 and its a 2 day course. Saturday, in a class room for 8 hours and Sunday in a parking lot on like a 250cc mini chopper bike. Careful though, they make you do a figure 8 in a specific amount of space. 8)

That's to take the BRC (Beginners Rider Course) through Rider Ed. $250 as mentioned above.
The DMV offers the same course for free, but only in a few areas (Sea Girt and Egg Harbor Twp) http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/mot ... safety.htm (http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/motorcycle_safety.htm)
Highly recommended if you want to ride and stay alive. So is gear as utah suggested. As they say, "Sweat wipes off, road rash doesn't." How long ago did you ride your Uncles bike, and what year was the R6? The brandy new bikes like you talked about buying are a lot different (i.e. more power, better brakes, more likely a mistake will throw you) than their 10 year old counterparts, so you want to make sure you don't get in over your head. Plus if you haven't ridden in a while, it's pretty likely at some point you'll drop it at a stop or doing a low speed maneuver, which hurts a lot more on a brand spankin shiny new bike that you're still paying for as opposed to a decent used bike, where parts are probably cheaper.
Also be sure to get higher insurance as mentioned above. Remember with a new bike you'll probably be forced to get full coverage, and I highly recommend going with higher liability limits than the minimum. With 7 points I'm not sure what you'll expect to spend (if someone will give you MC insurance), but it's going to be more on a SS bike than anything else. I've only got a 250, but for my size it's perfect, I love it, and I have full coverage for just over 300 a year. Plus it would really suck if you total the bike, and still have to pay it off.
You sound decently restrained by saying you won't race, trick, or speed all the time, I just hope you mean it. When you have all that power under you it's tough to stay level headed, and you can get into a heap of trouble very quickly on modern SS bikes.
Good luck, and any riders in central jersey let me know of any rides :)

I have insurance through my job. Why won't that cover anything the bike insurance doesn't? I remember your thread, but don't remember the reasoning and am too lazy to search.

Great group of people. Not a lot of talk on the board, but there are rides here and there. Most people do a lot of track days, so they don't street ride as much as before (7-8 yrs ago) but everyone there is really nice and doesn't stunt at all.

well i just called this guy out in texas.
got 2 quotes.
Liabilty is 550 for a whole year for a 08 cbr 600rr
full coverage is 2512 for the year.
ill most likly get the 2512 because it full coverage and covers other riders and if the bike is stolen they pay for it or you get a new one something like that.
just called bergen honda and the dude over there said ill be paying 10,700 out the door for a 08 cbr600.
guess ill try crazy eddies or if anybody has any hook ups let me know.
The r6 i rode was a 2003 2004 and it was at my house while he was in brazil so i took it around town a few times and stalled till i got the hang of it. other then that it was a good bike. then it go stollen. so there goes that.
as for staying under the speed. i will probly do a few speed runs but i gotta get my 7pts under because i rely on a car everyday so even if im forced to go fast i must contain the power with in and calm down. now when and how long my points go to 0 then i will probly be stupid at some points and try some tricks but untill then i have to controll it. i need to build up my credit and keep my record clean.
if anybody wants to try this guy out give him a call. here is based out of texas and works out of progressive.
