hey guys what goin on?? Well after starting to tune my MAFT, it appears that the exhaust valves have burned out in cylinder 4 as there is zero compression. Cylinder 3 is bad as well, 40 psi. There rest are at around 90 psi. A did a leak down test, and there was air escaping through the exhaust. So now im stuck with what to do. I know i will need a rebuilt head but what about the piston rings? If those have to replaced, then i might as well rebuild the whole motor, right? So any input, advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, George

if you need to replace the ringsthen yes rebuild the thing! only if you have the time and $$. its hard to say with out know ing the condition of the rest of the motor. if your looking to just make it run good with no problems then do a simple rebuild. if you wanna get a fast and furious and conquer the world then build it up! you can get wiescos pretty cheap nowa days! hit nate up he has everything!!!

no i dont want to conquer the world, just maybe rt 18  . A simple rebuild is all im looking for. Just wondering what the price for one of those is and what are some reputable shops in central jersey. Turbo Trix is nearby but Ive heard many complaints about them. Have any of you guys had any experience with them??
Thank you, George

Dam 40 and the rest are 90, thats terrible. If you just want something cheap and easy you might just be better off buying a lower mileage motor thats already been compression tested good. This way if you want to really go crazy later you have a 6-bolt to fuck around with.

those jdm cyclone motors, are they any good? Also, whats the going price for a stock rebuild, because if its close to the price of a jdm motor, im prob just better off with a rebuild.
Thanks, George

the cyclone motors are identical (almost) to a USD motor. they just have no EGR provision on their intake, and you may get a dual runner intake (whoopie!)
you can though however seek out a "yellow top" motor
meaning it comes with yellow top injectors and a small 16g
good luck finding an evo1-3 motor with a MLS head gasket and a big 16g
i went with the jdm motor options when i needed one (5 years ago)
i've put 100k+ on it and its still running great.

just as luke said the jdms are identicle. htoguh i heard that the intakes won't work without some modifications for the butterfly valve inside. all in all not worth it! i think what muggus said was great advice. buy a parts car motor swap it in then you have your motor to build at your own pace!!!

actually the cyclone dual runner is worth it, if you take the time to do it right. keydiver does custom chips to operate it though the fuel solinoid. FIFTEY wheel HP below 5 grand i think it was. looks nuts on his dyno graph.
