Okay guys i want to trade in my 02 accord for an evo... now the thing is im just curious of what you guys think of them as a daily driver? I found a really nice one for sale and my parents really dont mind what i do so its just a matter of trying to read up on them you know. I just had a transmission failure in my honda so my parents just want me to get rid of it even though its getting replaced with a new one thanks to our warranty :D But i just need to know some good/bad things about these cars and if trading my honda for it is a good idea. I havent test driven the car yet but its an 03 EvoVIII with 43,xxx miles on it.
If not this car what other car do you guys suggest is a good choice... im open for all options right now. Thanks Guys

Watch the clutches on those cars. I'm sure most Evo's have endured more than their fair share of hard launches and I wouldn't be spurised if it has a dramatically shortened life span because of it.

and you also have to understand a good portion of those miles are beat on miles, a evo is not ur everyday family car were dad goes out and buys it for the family, its usually owned by a person who is looking to go fast and beat the crap outta it, look at nate lol. anyway all im saying is i wouldnt get a evo wit that kinda mileage on it just cause of that, now if it was grandma owned id buy it

If it's the one at Maywood Mitsu I would steer clear. Another tech at work looked at it and he felt it was abused. It's got a CF hood which is another sign of a young owner who beat it regularly. I think they want too much money for it too.

I would be warry of an Evo with tht much mileage too, especially if it shows ANY signs of being modified. As stated before, just about every evo sold has had the snot beat out of it. I have never seen an evo8 that was bought to drive nicely, never.
Be prepare to change the clutch and brakes on any used evo with more than 10k miles. Front brake job is like $400.
anyway...with 43k miles on an 03 evo8. I wouldn't pay more than $17k for that car. anything more is too much. You can find 03 cars with half that mileage for only a couple grand more. you can get into an 04 for probobly 23k in a few months with the evoIX is out.
I bought mine in july o4 for $23k with 16,700miles on it.

audi A4's are relatively inexpensive and pretty reliable. it's a little harder to find the 1.8T's, but you can easily find a 2.8L. one of my friend's just picked up a 2.8L for like $9,000 in good condition. the only thing is that if it ever needs major work (timing belt, water pump, things of that nature) you are looking at a good chunk of change. german cars are $$$.
if you are just looking for straight up reliable and inexpensive, go the honda route. you can pick up an earlier SI for $15 or less in good condition. depends on what you're looking for really. you could also get like an 02-03 Nissan SE-R Spec-V for around $10 with low miles. 6speed, 2.5 litre...pretty nice car. an evo is not a daily driver...unless you're nate

keep extra money for upkeep. they come with $1,000 worth of tires that last 15k, a clutch that lasts 30k, and brakes that are mighty expensive too.

On most occasions yes. But there are some exceptions. This guy that lives by the train station here in edison has a new evo he bought brand new and hes in his 40's, doesn't race the car around or nothing. I talked to him once and he said its because hes into reliable awd cars that are good for the winter. He has a 1g tsi with 70k original miles thats been sitting in his driveway untouched ( )since he bought the evo new. i tried getting it off of him but he didnt want to. Cars sitting for too long= no good.

not a daily driver? wtf are you talking about. Because its a turbo car its not a daily driver?!?!?! its stock for christ's sake
and dont get a g35, yes they are nice, but everyone and their mother has one, just like the a4's. Well around me at least it just seems like there are more a4's and g35's than civics now. As nice as they are, i would try and be just a little bit different than everyone else.

An Evo would not be a good daily driver for one of us because we are going to mod it or at least beat it a bit on a daily basis. For someone like my Dad or my wife it would be a great DD once you replace the overpriced stock tires with some that will last longer and cost less. I have to totally disagree with Luke on the clutch lasting 30K. If you drive it like it was a normal car (no AWD launches or slipping the clutch) then you'd probably get 100,000 miles out of the clutch as well as everything else in the drivetrain with no problems. The reason for most failures is that since it's a sports car its driven hard. That being said, it still isn't a good DD for someone who (like all of us) can't resist modding it so you'd be better off with a regular Lancer for DD duties.

evos....its a mitsu, what can you expect?
g35, world known back pain causing seats, illegal to swap out, horrible to live with. few people have almost crashed after sharp pains ran throughout their bodies.
audi- unreliable pieces of shit. i know of 2 people personally that have blown timing belts on 1.8t and 2.8, miles after warranty (either 80 or 90k) thus ruining the entire motor. on another account, a8, trans blew and audi's customer service is piss poor, took months to get car back.

It's always going to be a hit or miss when buying a car. I drove a 98 Audi A4 2.8 quattro - absolutely no problems with it in the time I had it. Was a great car and the dealer customer service (Flemington Audi) was always helpful.

my A6 does fine. its just like any other car you have to maintain them. as far as the timing belt blowing out they say change them 6 years or 90k. and as far as the timing belt slaping warrenty wouldnt cover that because it is customer neglect. as far as the A8 trans? what year, the new body? you have to special order those from germany as they are currently on back order. oh yeah, twizzle what year was the A4 1.8t, they have a recall to check the tensioners because they do go bad in the 97-01. i would check into it. i personaly like audi's, but you kind of have to know which ones to get and which ones to stay away from.
