I was thinking about buying sheldons trans and was wondering what i would need to make it work besides the shifter assembly and cables. I know the t-case splines will be different on the output shaft but will it be the same on the driveshaft. If i change to a 23 spline t-case will the driveshaft still work or is it 22 splines on both sides. Is there any way around it besides changing my driveshaft and t-case. Sheldon said i could change some of the internals of the t-case to make it work or something like that.

You can use the same driveshaft with both cases. If you change the t-case shaft in the trans to the 1990 one then you can use your old t-case.

Make sure you have all the right brackets on the tranny for the cables. Theres a VFAQ on this.

Yeah i know about the cables and brackets, but thanks. I think i have a set of 91 cables and shifter somewhere. In case i dont, anyone have the shifter assembly? I know the cables i have.

I've aways found it strange that everyone always says that you have to switch out the shifter with eh tranny. I currently have a 90 tranny in my 92 with it's original 92 shifter and 92 mount bracket bolted onto the tranny and it has always shifted like my 92 tranny shifted when it use to go into gear. To put a 92 tranny in your car all you need to do is make sure that you reuse you 90 shifter and the 90 shifter mount bracket that bolts the cables to the trans it will shift fine. If you have all the parts already it would be a slight upgrade to the slightly shorter throw of the 91+ shifter but if you don't have the cash don't worry about it will work fine when you use the right linkage\bracket combo.

Well i have 91 cables and the brackets that the cables actually go through on the trans are still there were you put those pressure clips in to secure it. Would the 90 shifter assembly work with 91+ cables and 92 tranny bracket?

when you start to take the cables off the shifter base I have no idea what combination will work or not. I'm not 100% sure if it's the shifter\base in the car that determines which bracket you use or if it's the cables attached to the shifter that determine it. I would suggest keeping all 3 from either a 90 or from a 91+ just to be sure you have combination that works. If you go look at the one vfaq you'll find that if you get the combo wring at worst you won't be able to shift it into either 1+2 or 5+R depending on which way you decide to set it up. But if anyone else has other insight I'm sure it wont hurt.
