I went to Englishtown tonight for test and tune.

got 5 runs in:
12.69 @ 120.65 1.869 missed 2nd
11.49 @ 123.47 1.711 28psi, ok 60', lifted throtte in first to control tire spin
11.64 @ 124.50 1.818 bogged launch 30psi
13.15 @ 123.05 2.539 no idea WTF happened, crazy bog, then tire spin.
11.29 @ 126.57 1.724 31psi, lifted in first gear to control tire spin again.
kicked out for no rollbar. The guy in the time shack actually said "your done for the night". HAHA that was cool.

Big change was the BR fmic instead of stock fmic. Looks like the FMIC was worth huge power, like 60whp.

The track keeps getting very poor traction once the sun goes down, Im also runnig past 8200rpm in 4th now through the traps. Im still running a stock longblock other than 272 cams, and im getting nervous about the rpm. Im thinking about getting a set of tall drag tires to help with traction and gear ratio.

Next week Im going to Island with a new turbie housing to test out. If it makes the power it should, I honestly have no idea what to do about the traps. 130mph is going to be almost 8500rpm, IMHO, pressing my luck.

Mock up Evo 8 engine, here we come. :D

Congrats again even though you now put down a faster time than my Talon. Back to the drawing board I go.

Im not lovin it so much now. This car is running so well and I can't race it anymore. When I got the car, I promised myself I wasn't going to destroy it and make it a racecar. I didn't bother going to the NHRA event this weekend at Etown.

Guess Im going to have to pony up the cash for a well designed custom rollbar, add another 70lb of weight (on top of 3420 it was at Etown). Plus do little pita stuff...harnesses, steel tire stems, wear the damn fire jacket. suckage. It was so nice going to the track and not worrying about any of that stuff.

another odd point. This evo8 motor is making more power on turbo only, than the talon did with the same exact turbo. And the evo8 motor is stock other than cams. Evo8 was 3420 on Etown scale with me in it and went 126.5mph, Talon was 2775lb with me in it and went 128.89 at the same boost. That's 645lb differance, but only 2.3mph! WTF? I musta had one shitty tune in the talon, or these evo8 motors are good.

Talon had sheetmetal intake manifold...evo is stock
Talon had ported head...evo stock
Talon had built bottom, evo stock.

the evo has a better head. it has smaller ports than a 1g. sheetmetal intakes and ported heads don't do dick on a turbo motor. made rather obvious right here. but they have figured out how to tune the port shape to suit turbo motors better. its actually much smaller than the port on the 1g head, but makes more power.

the evo much more efficient, more aerodynamic, with less rolling resistance (street tires, actual working bearings, the car has seen an alignment rack during my lifetime)
your hp calculator does not factor in friction

get some et streets for it. not for the tire, but so they let you race on the slick side of the track. you can daily drive on the et streets too, just not in the rain and you can not "curb" them. no sidewall.

would be nice if they grouped the drag radials into the slick tire side. well nice for you i guess, but bad for the slick guys.
the slick side of the track is like 100 times stickier.

take it to phil for a competition alignment. it will certainly help you traction problem.

if you are seriously going to maintain that rpm through the traps, its probably time for some adjustable cam gears so you can retard the cams a bit to maintain your powerband.

thats my lecture for now :)

As for the SMIM...will test it to see if it's worth dick or not very very soon. Not sure if Im going to install the magnus intake or the fp turbine housing first. Im going to bet the intake manifold is worth 20-30whp, rather than a wang.

rolling friction...yeah, the evo is probobly better there, but IMHO, not a huge differance. the alignment is probobly most of that.

Drag slicks...eh, try and find some 17" drag tires....if you can find something that will fit, Ill buy them. all of the drag radials "BFg (both), MT, and hoosier only make 17" radials in 205 40, 225 45, and 275 and bigger. nothing in the 245 to 255 /45-55 range that is workable on the evo. suckage. Id like something taller than the 245 45 too to keep the rpm down a bit. Unfortuantly, nothing in a sticker tire than what I already have exists that will fit over stock brakes. I really do not want to put dsm brakes on it, as that is "looked down apon" in the evom community

Alignment...yes, on my list. will have both toe set as close to 0 as poss, and 0 the camber in rear, only touch neg in front.

cam gears....well, if I take the head off over winter, possibly. That's a fine tuning thing, and at the moment the car is still in the major main/rough tuning stage.

Unfortunately the Kosei K1's in 16x7.5" don't fit over the evo front brakes. The caliper hits them in two places. (Eh, I was bored last weekend) A 17" K1 rim with around a 30mm offset should work but I don't know if anyone is up for trying.

Luke, wait till you see the modified Magnus intake we have now. It'll be quite the "what the eff?" piece.

Mickey Thompson® ET Street®
Nylon, black, tubetype

Worlds fastest D.O.T. class race tire. Same great features as our race winning ET Drag with a D.O.T. stamp that meets the rulebook specifi cations for street tire classes. Tube type for extra sidewall strength, better air retention, and more consistent ET’s.

lol can your car take an 11" rim?
haha i wonder what those tires are for? i think they were specificly made for the ford lightning or something. i mean wtf else rocks 11" wide 17's?

i know a supra that rocks 13 inch wide 19's

or at least thats what he says

Dre's old Supra had 17x12's in the back (maybe 12.5) However, since he never boosted the car, i'm sure it was just for the "look"

what are you trying to say? supra's are dyno queens?

Yes, most are Luke.... but we all know Dre loves to have 500+hp cars that don't see boost..... ever

stock wheels are 17 x 7.5. I doubt an 11" tire is going to work on a 7.5" wheel. Can't fit anything wider than 8.5" on an evo without it sticking out or hitting suspension. that 26 x 11 is poop, way way to big.

Im looking for a tire I can drive to and from track. Id like to stay away from bias ply tires.

Nate Crisman

That 11.5" tire is listed as a 275 40 17? I think its still too big. That would have some bad ass traction. Seems all the DR makers have a 275 40 17, but knowing how DR's are sized, they are actually significantly bigger than the metric size says.

ahh F'it. I think im just going to keep adding more power, and screw traction. Ill just do a 10.9 @ 133 or something dumb.

i daily drove my mustang for years on bias plys. thousands of miles. its no big deal. the drag radials are made of the same crap as the et streets, they just don't have the 3 strands of wire wrapping them so they can call them a radial.

My friend's gonna be running 17x11s in the rear on his camaro pretty soon.

gtluke

right, i know some cars can take it. but there is no "logical" application for this i don't think. supra's and 11" wide rim camaro's arn't running 17" et streets. usually people rock et streets on stock rims, or street rods. anything serious has et drags, anything really street driven has real street tires on there or drag radials. the et street is an odd and dying tire now that drag radials are out. they would be perfect for nate if they made 17" ones to fit his rims. they are only slightly more sticky than a drag radial, but like i said the main gain will be from running in the slick tire groove.

Yeah my friend just bought the 275 MT streets for his stock 17s and he's gonna put some street tires on the fat 11 inch wheels. Its mainly for the look of the deep dish people do it. If they're serious they're steppin down to smaller wheels with biggers sidewalls.

How about some of that spray on crap that softens the tires? If you need an alignment done on either of the cars give me a call or PM me and I can get them into the shop after work. We just got a brand new Hunter that is AWESOME!
