Hey i was thinking about getting an older 00-01 s4. I know theres a couple owners on here, any opinions? How are the transmissions? Confortable interiors? Ease of driving, etc. I would love to get a nice silver one with black leather interior, 6-speed of course, put some nice 18-19" wheels and leave it like that.

I loved my S4, but owning one without a warranty scares me because of the crapload of electronics in the car. It's the reason I sold mine after 4 years of goodness. My thoughts:

1) The car doesn't make a good racecar. It's way too heavy and the weight distribution is terrible (understeers).
2) Retards love to steal them, and they're REALLY easy to steal with a screwdriver.
3) Interior is really nice, very quiet and ergonomic.
4) You want the 2001.5 or later. They redesigned the turbos so that they don't toss turbine wheels out the exhaust.
5) Everyone that has one has modded it at least with a chip. It's too easy not to, and the gains are too irresistible.
6) The transmission shifts nice once you get a stabilizer (DTS). The ratios are way too short however to be useful. With the super flat torque curve the gears should be spaced much further apart.
7) Mileage is dsmlike at a not so paltry 19-21.

Yeah i am worried about the theft unfortunatly, my friends neighbor just got his stolen at the mall a couple weeks ago. Its a dam shame. WARNING, fuck menlo park mall if you drive a nice car. They get jacked there way too often. Yeah your right about the warrenty thing also, i really want a brand new car but i dont feel like paying it off forever, plus i dont really like the new s4's too much. I would probably get it chipped and as for the turbos, if they die then its God telling me to upgrade them. If i bought an 01 from an audi dealer would they offer an exteneded warrentee on something like that or no? Thanks

beautiful car, I was actually thinking about getting one for a daily driver too, prices have dropped alot since the new model came out. another thing to consider is the 93-96 S6, has a 5-cyl 20v turbo that is alot more responsive to modification, and pretty bulletproof. the 90's audi's are pretty bulletproof, and you cant beat the quattro

Yeah those are nice cars but i deffinitly like the looks of the early 00 models. Plus im not really looking to mod the car much since it would be my DD and id like to keep a good mpg and reliability. If i want to go fast ill just hop in the dsm, plus ill keep my camry as the shit beater car that i can bring anywhere.

I can't think of a better all around daily driver.

6spd transmission can be a little loose, if so get a short throw shifter.
Interior is very comfortable and supportive with full power adjustable seats. I have the Cold Weather Package so I have heated seats which are worth their money in gold when it's 20 degrees out.

They are very easy to drive and reliable as long as you maintain them.

Everything Rene (Dr.Smile) said is right.
I keep an alpha-lock boot in my car. I put the metal boot on the rear wheel everywhere I park the car. I do not trust it anywhere in NJ.

WELL I KNOW THAT I HAVE NOT POSTED BEFORE BUT I'D HAVE NO PROBLEM GIVING MY OPINION ON THIS

I HAD MY S4 FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS
ELECTRIC BLUE - SOME MODS HAD ABOUT 50,000 MILES ON IT
THE CAR WAS AUTOMATIC

IT WAS THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED - AND I HAVE HAD MANY
THE ONLY DOWN SIDE IS THE THEFT - SOMEONE BROKE INTO IT ONCE IN JERSEY GARDENS MALL

AND THAN IN OCTOBER IT WAS STOLEN ONE NIGHT WHILE I WAS AT A BAR IN NEWARK - IT WAS USED IN AN ARMED ROBBERY AND
WHEN IT WAS FOUND IT WAS STRIPPED :(

THE MAINTENANCE IS NOT BAD ON THE CAR - I DID NOT HAVEA WARRANTY AND DID NOT HAVE ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS ON THE CAR THE WHOLE TIME I HAD IT

JUST MY OPINION HOPE IT HELPS
:D

LOL! One of the few things I've actually laughed out loud for on the internet.

Also, S4 trannies aren't really known to let go like that, so I don't know if there was another problem other then the tranny to make it fuck itself up. Power doesn't matter, I know a dude with a 732awhp, 743lbs/torque tsi, and he hasn't broken a tranny yet, and that's a dsm.
