After having my car sit around for the past 3 years without being washed or waxed, The sun started to inflict some damage to the paint and clear coat on the roof of my 1g. At first i didn't really give a crap since i only cared about making the car faster at the time. I eventually got tired of seeing the roof look that horrible and started to think about possible inexpensive solutions since i do not have the money for a paint job at the moment.

So i decided to buy some Matte Black vinyl to wrap the roof.

Well onto the before and after pics

Here is a pic of the Vinyl roll i used.

I ended up giving my brother a call to help me install the vinyl. It's much easier with 2 people.

He felt the need to take out his xbox live card to get out the air bubbles.

Don't mind the faded roof, I am saving some pennies for a carbon fiber hood.

It looks 10 times better now, I am thinking about doing the small panel on the roof also. It should look better with the whole roof done. Hope you guys enjoyed the pics!

Not to sound negative, but I bet the vinyl fades 10x faster than the roof.

I vote to keep the hatch panel shiney. Stands out better. However if you vinyl the hatch panel it makes it look like you did it to look cool and not to cover up bad paint.

We will have to wait and see then lol. Its suppose to last like 8 years from what I was told. I might get the car re-painted when the time is right, if not I'll just look for a cleaner shell. It's cheaper these days to buy a roller then get a whole new paint job.

But you got to figure the cost or time/effort to swap all your parts. The more modded your car is, the higher this gets.

Yes you are right, but isn't that what we enjoy doing? Atleast that's how I feel. I enjoy the time and dedication i put in when I do something to my car.

I most definitely do, but I don't have my own garage where I could do something like that. So for me the cost of new paint and swapping all parts plus shell is roughly equal at this time...

Old thread but the roof on the Tiburon is fading bad so I'm looking into doing this. Where and how much was that roll of vinyl? Car is black so that's perfect.
