what's up people? i've been browsing on these boards for quite awhile but i finally decided to join since i spend half of my time in jerz. and the other half, when i'm not at work is in philly.

anyway, i got a 97 GSX. (nothing special in/on it) it has been the biggest pain in the ass and i'm fairly new to dsm's which doesn't help. i'm sure some people here already know me since i'm on a few other forums. here are a few pics of my dsm...

you should remove that HK$ BOV and put a 1g dsm one on and put it back to recirculation. your car will run a LOT better.

welcome to njdsm

welcome to njdsm a few people told me i should do that, but i'm too worried about that right now. i have bigger problems and concerns...1, being new wheels. i want to make sure i can drive it on the road w/o falling apart before i start messing with the engine. so basically, i'm doing suspension and "under the car" work first.

more reason to sell the bov, make some money, and have a car that saves gas.

how you gonna knock the ssqv?

whats the point of it? does it do anything the 1g doesn't do?
this isn't a 600hp car, it doesn't require a 600hp BOV
the 1g bov will be more than fine for him and make his car run better and get better gas milage.

As soon as I saw the first picture, I knew you were going to say that! :P

I second the notion as well.

how you gonna knock the ssqv?

Every time I have to install one it makes me want to fly to japan and kick EVERY little japanese guy in the R&D department square in the jimmies. FUCKING A that c-clip is the stupidest mounting system ever. Just stupid. Everyone should boycott HKS all together for even thinking about it.

Oh man. heart attack #2 on the way. :?

i'm seeing a vented bov, chrome coolant overflow bottle, stock ic piping/probably stock ic, and huge chrome rims, the one thing you have going for the car is the 16g peekin out from under there. Rip that garbage off and you'll have plenty of money to fix the broken parts

haha yea i got ya, just bustin the new kid dont worry. As long as you de-mod that thing and replace them with normal parts, car should be looking pretty damn nice.

car looks clean minus the scary wheel gap. Dont put a 1g bov on, they leak. Just get a recirculation fitting for the hks. Other then that, welcome aboard. :)

Screw the hks and 1g bov, its tial all the way! But for a recirculating 1g is probably better off. Welcome.

01-20-2006, 02:24 AM
wow...lol. people are serious about bov's. i would have never imagined that my bov would be such a conversation piece  but like i said earlier, i'm just a noob...so all this recirculating stuff, i kinda get it, but from what i was told, with this bov it didn't necessarily needed to be recirculated. i remember some guy asked me if i stall all the time. i said no and he had a confused look on his face. he explained some things to me about something staying opened or closed when it's in neutral, yadda yadda...i dont remember. i mean, i want to know and learn...but i'm not there yet so its like teaching a blind man sign language

Some cars, usually 2g, will work fine with an atmosphered bov. But with the pull through mafs from the factory, there suppost to have a recirculated bov. Therefore when most people try it the car will run like shit.

Your car is slower because of it. Does that make you feel better about it?

MrGudbar99
01-20-2006, 09:29 AM
the car is slow already. (compared to those who has theirs heavly modded) there is no real performance upgrade on it that i think recirculating the bov wouldn't make that much of a difference...is that correct?? plus, i'm not racing or anything, so being slow is fine for now. but trust me, when i get to the engine parts, i'll be getting another bov.

i ran 10's on a 1g bov with 200,000 miles on it
WHAT NOW BITCHES
1g bov's do NOT leak(in his application). didn't you read the turbo magazine bov shootout? haha
the only bov's to beat it are the hks SSQ (at above 23psi) and the TIAL
the 1g BOV smokes the rest of the other valves. and only started to decline after 20psi

if u absolutely hate the idea of having a factory piece on your car (cough...ricer...cough..) then get a greddy type-s, it pretty much is a 1g bov just sounds louder and has a purple top. u can find them fairly cheap also. but i had the ssqv is it sucks major donkey dick and the C clip was a pain in my balls trying to get it out the flange and into an uicp. and venting just sucks all around, take 90goldtsiawd's post to heart and let it sink in because it's true.

oh, and the ssqv doesnt open under low boost so you're always getting compressor surge under normal driving and it blew my turbo and the turbos of a few other people on this site. thanks hks

I can agree with you as I ran a 1g bov my entire dsm owning life upwads of 23psi. But, it started leaking while doing boost leak checks at anything over 10psi so i replaced it. Put a used greddy type S on and picked up 1psi with no other changes.

You always leave out the important facts that most people don't think about or know of with your setup when you talk about racing. For one, you were running 7lbs of boost (no way will that bov leak then) and this was on a 5.8L V8, not a dsm. Apples to apples, cars to cars.

ah, the adr senso's i believe. They look MUCH better, but holy wheel gap batman, drop that shit quick  ... The car looks amazingly better without the bra or those mad tyte bling wheels yo

MrGudbar99

oh yeah...lol i meant to add that in there that i know about the wheel gap :D that would've been next, but i had to get new rims and tires first. i was saving up for some teins, but i think having something for the car to roll on is more important.
