View Full Version : No coverage of the 06 WRC season!?
What the hell is wrong with the Speed Channel?!? From what i can find, the Speed Chanel has dropped all coverage of the '06 WRC season. Rally was the only thing on that channel that i could watch.
This damn NASCAR bullshit is getting way to outa hand.
Does anybody know of ANYPLACE else to watch the races?

They're too busy showing 8 fucking hours of overpriced muscle cars to show some REAL motorsports. Fuck Speed, I just wish we had an alternative to their NASCAR filled channel. I hope to God that another motosports channel comes along, it's got to be better than they are.

I've been trying to track down any alternative for WRC coverage. Unless you get satellite television that can pick up the european broadcasts, then you're out of luck. The Speed forums have been flooded with protest of the lack of wrc coverage, which pisses off the moderators who simply lock and delete their posts. The last word they got was from an 'insider' who said that talks are ongoing between the network and the FIA.

If you still get oln. I have DISH network satalite. I specificly got it with the 180 channel package for OLN so I could watch motocross nationals. last fall OLN went off the air with DISH over some dispute with comcast.
suxs. If nationals are on OLN again this summer, Im going to have to switch back to cable and ditch the satalite.

Who cares about wrc anymore anyways? Not to be an ass but to me that shit died off completely last year. Who still competes in them at this point?? Privateers? That's fun but I doubt alot of them would be able to go long enough in the championship without getting screwed and missing out on standing.
How much is OLN btw? I don't get it... I try and use it to watch some of the rangers games they don't show on msg but whatever. Also, if SPEED doesn't show the the 2006 F1 GP i'll personally walk over there and kick each and everyone of their asses. I want to go 2 years without missing a race.

I wouldn't look at it that way, especially with many of the former factory drivers going to privateer teams. Their skills didn't erode, their cars still have to conform to the same standards and specifications that the factory teams have to, and in most instances, the engineers and mechanics who were on the factory teams last year are now working for the privateer teams. The only thing you're not getting with a factory team is the research and development that the manufacturer does when they introduce a new car.
Two of the podium finishers of the Monte Carlo rally were in a privateer backed car (and one of them is a two-time WRC champion). It's the drivers who make WRC exciting, not the backers who slap the decals all over the car.

it's that kind of attitude that will keep the wrc out of the US forever. so what there are less factory backed cars? Loeb still came in 2nd with last year's Citroen. in every other country other than ours, wrc clips and results are shown on tv like highlights from football or baseball games here. I saw more coverage on the wrc and dakar on the spanish channel over the past month than I ever saw on ESPN or CNN or whatever in my entire life. my spanish sucks, but at least I can get the jist of it. shit, I didn't even know who won the Dakar until I read the portuguese paper my dad buys in Newark. "private" teams are the only things keeping wrc alive, not to mention F1. remember, we're talking about companies like Red Bull, who currently own 2 formula 1 teams and I believe they are sponsoring a couple rally cars, including skoda. we need to stop being "american idiots" and start causin a ruckus to get what we want!

Which has any meaning to it BTW, the real problem IMO is ignorance or stupidy(Take your choice). As to why so many idiots in this country love NASCAR and non-drivers like Earnhart and Gordon. Why is it the select few individuals or true automotive enthusiast(like myself and most of the people here), worship the WRC and not nascar? And how did that lame ass so called "sport" even come back to life? When I first started watching rally(about 6yrs ago) nascar was dead, no espn coverage and channels like speed or fox or whom ever would bump the show if time ran out.
The eueropean aspect/way of life is different than than our but for what reason?I mean Loeb is worshiped like a god in France (as well as he should be)and not for nothing, I have nothing against Danica Patrick. But she hasn't acomplished anything in her proffesional career and yet, Indy fans(all-of a sudden) out of nowhere worship her and spend tons of money on her? Loeb is pretty much the best driver in the world, period.
And didn't one of the citrogen drivers die last year? But who cares right? And to me personally, it looks like the WRC gets more and more popular each year but I guess that's not $enough$, what is this world coming to?
(there's so much more I want to say, but rigth now I can't find the words  )

I dont knock nascar, I actually like Nascar. Gordon is an awesome driver, he actually beat a bunch of the world's best rally drivers at their own game at the Race of Champions. Go to England, they love Nascar there. There is a reason that it is huge. By the way, if you have cablevision watch channel 17 (spanish channel) saw a rally update and the new Ford looks awesome!

I still like NASCAR but they have gotten too mainstream and they are so worried about every car having the same aerodynamics that its getting boring. I'd rather watch replays of old NASCAR races from the mid 80's when the Chevys looked like Chevys and the Fords like Fords. Nowadays they all run almost the same body with different headlight and grille stickers on them.

I just cant watch nascar on the ovals (road course, ok) b/c it bores me, but nothing against the driver's skill. I wish they would bring back the mid 60's nascar where they started with actual cars and they were HUGE land yachts. But how safe would that be I guess.

Nascar drivers are certinly talented. When we go to Indy for the SX, we stop by this indoor kart track. These are wicked fast, you hve to wear a suit and helmet to drive them, they wore all of us out with arm pump before the rece was over.
anyway, they give you printouts of your laptimes and rank over everyone in your race.
On the wall in the waiting area there was a sheet that had the 10 or 20 fastest laps of the month, year, ever. Guess who was at the top?
Nascar drivers were the fastest laps there on all of the top lists, they must rent the place for some fun while they are in town for the brickyard nascar race. They must be pretty decent to come in there once a year and set faster lap records that last all year then the people who race there every week.
Well...actually, I should say the top few nascar drivers are good all around drivers. But look at what boris saad (trans am driver) does. He gets hired to run the 2 road course events in nascar and is capable of running up front. He lays the smack down on the majority of the pack with ease. Id say the back half of nascar pack are excelent in thier circle track stuff, but that type of racing may be the only experience they have. Some of the top guys have come through karting and roadracing too, making them better overall drivers.

probobly true as well. Unfortuantly we don't get much chance to "cross polinate" between WRC, F1, Nascar, trans am..ect. Ither than that thing on tv where they race a rally car, ferrarri, and gocark thing in the stadium. That's pretty cool.
